I am following Evans and think he could play here. But he has not set the place on fire yet. He is taking some wickets and not getting belted. Good. Some batting skills and the capacity to step up. Good. In any normal system he would not yet have done enough. It's only that we cast around for any glimmer of hope to throw in that he should be near the national team.
Yes, they've stuck a few dodgy blokes in and he should have been ahead of them. Yes.
But I don't think he should be too down. He needs to go through a couple of Logan cup lineups. He needs to run through a couple of batting orders at this level. Masuku has done it and no one ever bigs him up.
Evans ought to be able to do that too. Hope he does.

Yea doesn't make sense unless this is something ZC believes will safeguard their Test status without playing any. Or perhaps give them primacy in some sort of tussle with Ireland and/or Afghanistan.
The new FTP needs to incorporate the Little 3 into a Test framework. And ideally it should be branded and can have a analagous standings table like WTC. They could call it the ICC Test Challenge League or TCL for short. Every 2 years each team plays 1 series home/away vs the other two sides (at least 4 Tests total) plus 4 one-off Tests vs WTC sides (selected by random draw or negotiated by the boards).
There literally half a dozen formats that would work but the ICC does nothing. ZIM/IRE/AFG need to play at least 4-5 Tests per year.

Well that's the real nitty gritty of it right there. There are a few guys that absolutely will not cope at international level making up numbers being picked ahead of someone who might. I agree he hasn't done anything exceptional though and clearly he's one of the ones that needs to.Jemisi wrote: ↑Sat Feb 26, 2022 12:06 amI am following Evans and think he could play here. Yeah there's something about these games and ICC box ticking that we don't know about. On the face of it they're pointless. If they were extra games it would be fine, but ZC only have appetite to begrudgingly tolerate a finite number of cricket games and 5 x 5 day games is the equivalent of 50 games of T20 that we sorely need.

Maybe some A tours around the corner?
Re: Regional 5-Day Series 2022 | Northerns Vs Southerns
Not particularly pleased by the squads, definitely some squad fillers in there.
Here are my XIs based on the squads:
North
Kaitano
Kaia
Maunze
Madhevere
Raza (c)
Madande (wk)
Munyonga
Chisoro
Mumba
Nyauchi
Chivanga
South
Masvaure
Kasuza
Ervine
Mutumbami
Kaia
Shumba
Masakadza
Masuku
Mashinge
Chatara
Ngrava
I think the northern squad is better than the southerns, the batting lineup for the southerns is pretty weak on paper except for Ervine. No idea why tsiga is part of the squad and I still don’t rate chari so I had to pick 5 bowlers.

They've also changed from 4 days to 5-days, which is interesting. Have we played 5 day domestic cricket before???

Looks like a few last minute squad changes. Maunze has swapped to the south and Tanu Makoni has appeared
