Falao is going to Eagles apparently, next season. Haven’t heard anything else. Should send them all to Rhinos - they desperately need a boost!

Why are the black cricketers from the Under 19's so easily transferable to the FC system, yet not the white kids? Welch and the Bennetts scored some good runs in that tournament yet they aren't getting a look in..? Ridiculous to say the least.
Glad Falao is getting a chance but more need to be added or at least given a chance

Or even the national team. Wesley, Myers, Marumani, Shumba all easily made it into the senior side but that hardly happens for any talented white kids. Albeit the white boys are also more likely to ship off overseas...but perhaps thats because they know they'll be overlooked for a few seasons whilst the Marumas and Chibhabas continue to get selected.sloandog wrote: ↑Sun Feb 27, 2022 11:25 pmWhy are the black cricketers from the Under 19's so easily transferable to the FC system, yet not the white kids? Even the blacks are also running away from Zim and pursuing their career overseas. It seems the game is forcefully imposed in Zim, no one has the view to solve or improve financial matters to protect the gameKriterion_BD wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 4:49 amOr even the national team. Well it's never happened. I think the last white youngster to get opportunity was BT twenty years ago.
We need to get to the bottom of why they're having these 5 day games- I'm sure we will hear the reason soon enough.
It may be no more complicated than ZC recognising that FC standard is not quite what it should be and they're pitting like vs like and they're doing it over 10 straight days to get it over with, except these games won't go the full ten days.
It's only the first game but I'm willing to bet the second one will be similar- only a couple of batters from ea side making good contributions and the rest not doing much. I'm assuming the bowling is now slightly tighter and most of the batsmen don't cope with sustained better bowling.
We're playing poor man's A side cricket, which is fine, it's a lot better than nothing. A side tours will be a disaster becouse there's such a gulf between our A side and our national side, and between our A sides and any other country's A side.
We just need to keep playing as much cricket (any format) as possible and we will get to see who's who. With minimal game time the excuse is there's minimal game time and some of these guys are really good and they're not getting game time to show what they can do. We need to do away with the smoke and mirrors and let some rise and others perish. If we keep playing 8 games a season a guy can keep getting picked for 10 years because he's temporarily "out of form." The more cricket we play the closer we will get to that "oh shit" moment where they start making better selections, start focusing on better coaching of our better guys, Academies, bowling and batting clinics etc etc. Well that's the theory, maybe they won't bother.
I don't know if it's just a rumour but I've heard there are two young white guys in a T20 squad, but whether they get game time remains to be seen. I think Mitchell is one and another youngster called Greg Liebenberg (never seen him). He was never near an U19 side so I'm wondering who he is.
We need to see them play, but I have my doubts whether they will or whether they'll do anything useful. As poor as our standard is its a big jump up for youngsters out of school. I'd prefer to see them playing Vigne and NPL and doing well.

Yes but the black players have far fewer options. But in general it seems that ZC wants as black a team as possible, but has a few whites that they seem to "like". They at least seem to like the Big 4 non-blacks of Taylor, Williams, Ervine, Raza.Rajkumar Sharma wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 5:36 amEven the blacks are also running away from Zim and pursuing their career overseas. It's the same with this NPL, they're recognising that if you leave Club cricket up to the players it's a rag tag competition, so they bring NPL which is more structured and they make the franchise players reluctantly play.
They recognize franchise is not strong enuf and they do this North vs South.
It's a good thing of course, but its a fix for some fundamental underlying issues.

I think Liebenberg is based at Campbell’s place. Probably decent enough, but if he is in a squad and all the other talented whites can’t get a look in - people will rightly be suspicious and wonder what deeds have been undertaken to obtain that squad place.
It’s not just whites that have this problem. The return of club cricket always reminds us how many very talented cricketers - black, asian, white - there are there that never get a look in almost completely inexplicably. Some out of their own choice I guess. But some just don’t get a chance. We notice more with the white guys but there’s blacks and Indians in this situation too.
Franchise contracts aren’t fair. Trials take place rarely if ever. Scouts don’t attend club games. Management is racist. Coaches enjoy receiving brown envelopes of cash. Etc.

As for the u19’s, many are still in school and preparing for upcoming exams of course. Wouldn’t expect many/any to play this season. Next season we will know who intends to stick around or not. If Mitchell is in a squad as reported for the T20 then that’s nice. He underwhelmed during the main u19WC though, and it’s a huge step up to franchise level. Good luck to him.
