My point is why would you change your winning combination after that Pakistan win . Last game few runs from jongwe would have been handy and this game few from Evans

Mutumbami, Madande,Mpofu, Gumbie are all stop gaps, not good enough, there are clowns at best. Chakabva is our best option.TapsC2 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 7:23 amTheir worst performance so far.
I guess the big lesson Dave and the selectors can learn from here was picking the right squad. It looks like Wellington was never going to play. An extra batsman would have done the trick. Also you can't pick a keeper who is never going to play because he isn't ready for this level.. its 2 passengers in the squad on top of 3 batsman in the 11 who are struggling. We are minnows. Expecting to play the same 11 or 12 guys over 8 matches is a serious miscalculation.
Mutumbami has his off field problems but he can strike the ball better than both Regis and Madande. We are all with good reason upset that Marumani didn't make it to Australia but if we are using the domestic scene as the measure Mutumbami was averaging 73 in the T10 with a strike rate of 164. Second most runs behind Marumani. This is a once off tournament. Pick the best we have and not for the future.
Madande averaged 15 with a strike rate of 118 in that same T10 tournament. I personally don't care if Mutumbami is a prick on or off the field. These players are professionals, you don't get to pick who you work with when you are getting paid handsomely for it. If its a coach like Rajput fine I understand that but you can't be 30 plus years old and let another player get under your skin. That's my own opinion on that.
Chakabva has been riding off form for the past 18 months. Once he lost that his usual problems were clear to see in the shorter formats. It has been a big risk basically not putting him under pressure.
Shumba is having a shocker of a tournament and he definitely needs to be dropped after this.

My word, just saw the scorecard. Last two games have nullified the highs of the Pak win. Quite a literal example of how it is always one step forward, two steps back for us...

Mashinge is a decent player but unfortunately he isn't international quality. Neither is Mandande.
Marumani has potential but he's got plenty of work to do. Plays wild and loose shots, which you can't do at this level, even if it's T20.
My big burning question is why they don't persist with Evans??? Why can't he be allowed to fail more than once before he warms the bench? If you don't have a match winning game you're dropped? He's had 2 in about 5 games, who else can say that?
Let's sack some prejudiced selectors before we sack some players, it's a joke.
Count the number of times that some of our players have had diabolical games and just keep getting reselected ad nauseum.

Some massive over-reactions here.
Wheels came off today and had a shocker, but it happens sometimes, especially in T20.
We've massively outperformed expectations over the last six months. Getting to the Super 12's was our target, we did it easily. We also beat Pakistan and that was an epic moment.
Put things into perspective guys, it's been a better world cup for Zim than any of us expected.

Houghton and Ervine pick the XI on matchdays. Or they do in theory.Googly wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 9:05 amMashinge is a decent player but unfortunately he isn't international quality. Neither is Mandande.

I don't think it's an over reaction. We would have gone into this World Cup expecting to beat Netherlands regardless of anything else, or what would have happened.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 9:21 amSome massive over-reactions here.

To then get ourselves into the position we did, and then lose games against two sides we would have targeted as wins before this tournament even started, makes it fair to be upset that we didn't. The manner in which we lost them too makes it that much worse.

England lost to Ireland. Pakistan lost to us. Sri Lanka lost to Namibia. West Indies lost to Scotland. Etc etc.zimbos_05 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 9:27 amI don't think it's an over reaction. It happens.
We've had an astonishingly good six months from the nadir we were in. I'm very proud of the team.

Ya they've exceeded expectations and done well, given us some great moments.

Was interesting watching Raza bat today. He is struggling for form, was lucky twice before he got out. The one thing that's saving him so far is that he can clear the ropes when he connects. He basically hit his way out of trouble but he is still struggling. Our other guys besides Williams are also struggling but they can't hit their way out of trouble. T20s are for people who can clear the ropes and that will aways be my take. Once you lose form or you chew up deliveries then get out you look very very silly. I saw Pakistani fans complaining about their openers batting too slowy yet they are both in top 5 on the rankings I think. Strike rate is the key ingredient in this format.
Burl has also lowkey had a shocker of a World Cup because he is a 1 trick pony with the bat but that's a story for another day
although I do feel after this world cup he should actually bat in the top 3. He just looks like the kind of guy who will hit form 1 day but he needs time in the middle
