cricket and money in Zimbabwe

Post by andrea lanzoni »

I started this post to learn if, and approximately how much money, Zimbabwean cricketers make.
I really have no idea.

For instance:
- what is a player fee when representing national team? Is it also for women?
- do umpire receive a fee?
- how much cricketers playing domentic league make?
- how much is the cost of a ticket to watch an international fixture? How much the ticket for a local league game?

Thanks

Free entry to watch domestic matches. Just turn up.

International matches, depends on the opposition. When we’ve played Namibia or associates etc it’s often free entry. When playing a full member usually up to $10 depending on area of ground.

Umpires probably get paid very little. No idea to be honest.

National team players who are contracted (approx 14 contracts) are at the moment very well paid. Not always been the case in the past but at the moment they are raking it in. Uncontracted players probably get match fees when they are called up.

Domestic players E.g Logan Cup - guys don’t get paid very much at all. It has improved this season I hear.

Generally as little as $600 a month for some of the less successful players. A bit more for senior/older guys. Each franchise has about 20 contracts. Occasionally they pick people from outside those 20 and those guys probably play for free/a pittance.

The 600 a month the domestic players get, is it 600 dollars per month for 12 months or only for the cricket season?

Not sure if it has changed as things have got a bit better in ZC, but certainly as of a couple of years ago it was generally just paid between October-March.

There has been a document floating around Twitter with players salaries two years ago.

BT was at the top. The lower Enders were 60k a year.
Cricinfo profile of the 'James Bond' of cricket:
