Who's the better batsman overall, Ballance or Taylor?

I have actually been thinking about this for a few weeks. We will have our answer by the end of this year but on paper I would have to give it to Ballance.jaybro wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 2:03 amThis could be a thread on itselfKriterion_BD wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 11:40 pmWho's the better batsman overall, Ballance or Taylor?

We didn't often see the best of BT. In hindsight he probably was not often at his best mentally or physically. In terms of out and out talent and array of shots BT definitely edges Ballance. In a different environment Taylor would have had world class stats, few realise how good he really was. He played a lot of his cricket in a very toxic environment.
Not much in it though, Ballance is an exceptional player, we are all crossing fingers that he has a great career here.
He's good captain material as well, but its probably a bit early to be thinking along those lines

Ballance came through a much better system than BT, and BT has better numbers across his international career. But Ballance probably scored the ‘bigger runs’ when he scored those centuries for England.
His test, 1st class & List A averages are also better than BT’s, but BT has the better ODI record and also more international tons and runs overall.
BT probably had more ability to take an attack apart, whilst Ballance could face up to the best bowlers in the world in challenging conditions, whilst BT never really scored a crucial innings against a world class attack in those challenging type conditions.
Shame we can’t see them bat together

It's like it's almost perfectly set up for Ballance to have a big impact. We play weak opposition maybe 40% of the time. Age wise he is probably around the peak for a batsman. The supporting cast he has is much better than what BT had maybe in 2015 at his peak. The environment less toxic. He has had over a decade to develop in what might be the best system in the world. If he blocks out the noise around him and adopts Houghtons positive approach he could do some real damage over the next few years.

If people think Compton is a Logan Cup bully they must have forgotten about Ballance in 2012
I think he crossed 1000 runs in 8 games. Absolutely destroyed it

The only immediate concern is that he's had two years out of the game. Might take him a while to get back up to speed, especially at international level. Would have preferred him to have a month or two getting his eye in in domestic cricket. Class is permanent though, he'll be fine.
