I think Ervine will open. Madande at 7, a spinner at 8 and three seamers.

On a surface offering some assistance to spinners then yes they can be effective, but from what we’ve seen over the years & during the Ireland series, if the deck is flat & coming on well, they get tonked.
I’d be playing Mavuta, he has x-factor & we’ll need some
During the qualifiers.

I'd put Mayavo straight into the side. Have either Madande or Marumani made any runs against a decent side?secretzimbo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 8:38 amI think Ervine will open. Madande at 7, a spinner at 8 and three seamers.
I'd even be tempted to play Bennett. We've had weeks of alarming and depressing failures and suddenly out of nowhere these two lads play well.

Mayavo is a good keeper but you can't put him in the side on the basis of one 47-run innings in a warm-up fixture against a Netherlands side which looked less than brilliant. Madande is a better talent than Mayavo, without doubt.
There's an argument for throwing Bennett in for sure, after all they did with the other youngsters. But he's yet another middle-order batsman, which is the last thing we need. Are you dropping Ballance or Williams for him? No.
Wes/Marumani are in on the basis that they can (in theory) open. (And be a backup keeper in Maru's case). It's probably their last chance, against this slightly easier opposition.

Wes/Marumani have opened and failed many times so what do you have to lose by giving Bennett a go at opening ? He liked the ball coming on in the warm up game. Looked at home against the Dutch opening bowlers. Batted at 3 yesterdaysecretzimbo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 9:38 amMayavo is a good keeper but you can't put him in the side on the basis of one 47-run innings in a warm-up fixture against a Netherlands side which looked less than brilliant. Bennet needs another season. I dont believe in setting up peeps to fail.

How the hell did Bennett overtake everyone to be in the national team?

That’s a good point. A season in the U.K. and a full domestic season across formats here next year and he should be even better. There’s no need to rush, especially when (currently) the middle order is stacked.
The squad we’ve picked for this Netherlands series is excellent imo, I have no complaints.
Re: Netherlands ODI Series - Discussion
I would give Raza a rest for the first game and open with Marumani. One of the main reasons he is in the squad is that he is the reserve keeper yet we haven't seen him keep in an international 50 over match. Rather we see if his glove work is good enough now than in the qualifiers. I have my doubts about his keeping abilities. It was never really his thing.
