Gumbie can clearly play and I don't think we should be discounting him for further selection. I just think there's a few options which would suit the role better

Looks like batting paradise out there this afternoon

Yes. He might not be the best option for the qualifiers but there is something to work with after the qualifiers which is a good thing. Probably him opening with Kaia in the long term. A steady opening partnership is rare for us.

They just need to take this to 25 overs now these two and re assess the situation.
They've weathered the storm so to speak.
But again, it shows the value of the toss at HSC. The wicket is almost completely different to the surface in the morning

Although some of his attempted sweeps, reverses and that pretty horrific attempt at a ramp shot off that free hit show white-ball cricket really isn't his natural game. He looks a bit awkward trying to up the run rate.
Clearly has improved massively as a cricketer though and in fine form. A genuine option going forward particularly in red-ball cricket.
Would like to see him and Kaia together in the remaining two games!

Remember Kaitano came from nowhere, looked a million dollars and has now faded to obscurity and can't buy a run.
Kaia and Gumbie have made similar bolts, and we have to hope they keep it up and don't follow the Kaitano route.

You guys might slag me off for stating this but I feel a Gumbie-Kaia opening pair is the best bet currently for the qualifiers.

Omair dropping a catch
Good karma as we dropped him at least 3 times earlier

Big century for Ervine today will do him the world of good. Been needing a big score for ages
