WI and SL are proper test playing nations and former world champions and multiple times ICC champions, if you guys think they will end up losing to the likes of Oman or UAE then you are headed for disappointment.
The only way to Qualify for Zimbabwe is to take them head on and beat them... And Zimbabwe are capable of doing it. It is not easy but very much possible.
The only other team that can help us (Zim) in taking points off WI or SL is Ireland.... And as of now they are having a disastrous time.
2023 WCQ | non-Zimbabwe matches
Re: 2023 WCQ | non-Zimbabwe matches
I would back netherlands to push west indies pretty hard particularly if their leg spinner comes off
Re: 2023 WCQ | non-Zimbabwe matches
If Scotland choke here v UAE then that certainly brings the Irish back into contention for the Super 6s, especially if they can upset Sri Lanka.
The perfect scenario for Zimbabwe would be for SL, Ire & Oman all entering the Super 6s on 2 points each.

Yes they are. My point was more around some of the posters seeming to think WI are easily beatable. This is especially happens after some strong performances by Zim. The level of where we are gets exaggerated a bit.
Can we stop with trying to have every player in our team also be a bowler. Wes is a better. The quicker we realise this and focus on giving him proper development, the more we will see him realise his potential. Until then. he'll be a player who inconsistently consistently frustrates.CrimsonAvenger wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 1:27 amI'd keep Wes in the playing XI just to have the death by spin option open,

Wes has the potential to be an excellent bowler for Zimbabwe. He's always been an all-rounder. I'm pretty sure I recall bowling was his strongest suit at a very early age before his batting developed through his teens.
I think he was the leading wicket-taker in the entirety of SA school cricket one season and isn't he the all-time leading u19 world cup bowler? When Williams & Raza are gone he's going to be a handy option.
I don't think having to chuck down a few overs of off-spin can be blamed for his extremely bad batting form. Sorry to say I don't think the fix is that easy.

Re: 2023 WCQ | non-Zimbabwe matches
I'm not saying he should be bowling much in the current tournament because yes we have numerous other options. But you can't characterise Wes as a specialist batter. That's just.....wrong.
Re: 2023 WCQ | non-Zimbabwe matches
It actually can be that easy. Players can be characterised too. Many players will start with two roles, but eventually develop into one. Once Raza and Williams go, it's not like we don't have options. We already have Wellington, Evans, Jongwe, and Burl. There are then also guys like Myers, and Shumba who also bowl.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 11:30 amWes has the potential to be an excellent bowler for Zimbabwe. The question has to be asked, what is Wes's role? I honestly think we lose more in our batting when Ervine, Raza and Williams retire than we lose in our bowling. So what role is Wes to play. If it's all rounder, then we need to adjust his batting development to support his bowling and vice versa.
I would suggest he is a better batter, and we saw that in the last game too. His bowling was not very tidy and he will always be targeted. We already messed up with playing him in the Tests, let's not keep making mistakes with him.

Re: 2023 WCQ | non-Zimbabwe matches
I see your point but I think Wes has enough ability as a bowler to justify developing as an all rounder. He’s a much better bowler than, say, Shumba. And Myers with his military medium too. If I were them I’d concentrate purely on batting, yes. But Wes is genuinely a more than decent bowler and I think it’d be a shame if he dropped that completely.

Myers is a shade better than madhevere and has more of a cricketing brain
