He's an interesting one.
He averages 30 in red ball, 24 in 50 over and 18 in T20.
If you look at every good player in County who's not quite kicking on these are their averages.
Theyve pulled some strings to get him eligible. By they I mean Kent and with the help of the ECB and clearly the Home Office. That may be to resolve a legal requirement atm.
"They" would obviously love him to become a star, but they will be hard pushed to give him an early start in England colours before he starts making a name for himself at County level. Everyone can see he can play, but he's erratic.
He's got a 100 call up which is primarily ticking a diversity box because there are a number of better T20 guys out there who didn't get the nod.
He'll definitely get a game, if he does well he'll get another, it's what it's about.
I'm curious what his best format is now and what it may become. I rate him, he's got huge potential, but he's in with the best players around. He'll have to be special to go up a level. If they ever wanted a diversity box look no further than Carberry. He can really jam.
As for him being unable to return, that's not true.
That would be some serious PR for Zanu if he ever decided to come back.

He went to England on a refugee/asylum claim, claiming political persecution of his family by Zanu PF. Somehow.eugene wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 6:12 pmHe doesn't qualify for Zimbabwe at all?

His pops got a letter stamped by his mate.
No jokes.

Re: Zimbabweans in franchise league
The way they post the score on this Hundred is just offensive. It blots out half the screen.
Re: Zimbabweans in franchise league
And that disqualifies him from playing for Zimbabwe in future? What if the persecution has ended? Did he renounce his citizenship?secretzimbo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 6:16 pmHe went to England on a refugee/asylum claim, claiming political persecution of his family by Zanu PF. Somehow.

You get used to it. The Hundred isn't all bad, it's certainly better than this T10 nonsense.

I don't even know why people think someone who even refused to play for the u19s would want to play for the national team. My prediction is he will have a long county career and call it quits after that. They will give him a national call up eventually but he would have done extremely well to have a long England career. He doesn't have Zim in his heart, Gary Ballance style.
The refugee thing really annoys me because that was a clear manipulation of the system and they turned a blind eye because they can see he can tick a lot of boxes for them if he kicks on. His life has never ever been at risk

Things can always change, anyone who follows Zimbabwean cricket should know that. In 10 years time he might suddenly be a great patriot. We have seen plenty of players walk away for good, only to then come back.TapsC2 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 12:42 amI don't even know why people think someone who even refused to play for the u19s would want to play for the national team.
