Rizwan can take this game fairly close if he stays in. Still expect PAK to lose but could be a close game.

Pakistan are never a side that will chase down 360+ against Australia at the World Cup. Dead pitches have made this tournament incredibly boring.
As I said earlier, it is very hard to find logic with Pakistan's squad. Abrar Ahmed is 10* the bowler Usama Mir is and yet he didn't get into the squad. They have a very one dimensional batting line up. No finishers, no spinners and now even the fast bowlers are coming apart. Shambolic stuff.
Aussies have got back on track here and they are a dangerous side when they get going. I think India and NZ will make the semis for sure and it's going to be very close amongst Aus, RSA and ENG for those last 2 spots. Other teams are just not good enough (in terms of consistency) to make the final 4.
A shorter, grouped format can turn things upside down even with just one or two upsets.

But here’s the question for everyone here.sam_ahm wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 4:44 pmPakistan are never a side that will chase down 360+ against Australia at the World Cup. Dead pitches have made this tournament incredibly boring.

Do you guys want a tournament where Bangladesh can sneak into the semis based on one win against a top 5 side?
The current Bangladesh side is clearly not good enough to make the semis, along with Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, and possibly Australia and England as well. The longer format rewards consistency, and you can see which teams are truly better than the others.

Well then the tournament should just be decided on world rankings isn't?
You need a format that dishes out surprises.

If you want consistency over a long period of time then you have a league. Which funnily enough the ICC has just scrapped.
It’s a World Cup. Yes a team should be able to fluke their way through with some luck and some shock wins. It happens in every other World Cup in every other sport. It’s what makes tournaments interesting.

I didn’t consider that shock result aspect of a shorter tournament. Pretty strong argument to make.

Where are Pakistans next generation of batters? This Iftikhar and Nawaz in the side is a joke. Usamar Mir is an embarrassing selection. A club bowler at best
Re: 2023 ODI World Cup Discussion
I definitely want a tournament format where upsets can happen. Watching Kenya make the semis in 2003 was far more exciting than the current format. As I've said many times, 2007 had the best format.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

Great posts, in FIFA WC we all know who the top sides are and how boring it will be if they reduce the WC to a 10 team round robin... There are just 4 teams in every group followed by last 16, Qtrs, SFs, and Final... Making it an incredibly entertaining format and almost every match is kind of a do Or die.
The reason a World Cup is so exciting is because people want to see something riding on every game,an upset should shake up things... Here we have reduced the excitement probably only to the Semis and Finals.

Pakistan's cricket is a bit of an indication of where they are headed as a country, it's a failed state atm and they are no longer producing the quality of cricketers that they once did.
If you observe, their Hockey is dead, Squash, a sport they dominated during 90s, is dead... And Cricket is on a rapid decline.
