The Greek community was given indigenous status in Zimbabwe by Zanu PF. That theoretically gives them the same rights as black Zimbos. ie we could have 15 players of Greek heritage in our national squad and it shouldnt raise an eyebrow. We know that's not true, but it would surely test how indigenous they were really perceived as.

The 2 most prominent Greeks in Zim are Peter Haritatos- a fluent Shona speaker hailing from Kadoma who was the deputy Minister of Agriculture and Zed Koundounaris-
He's the co-founder of Innscor, its principal shareholder and immensely wealthy, powerful and influential. He actually controls most of the food products coming into Zim that stock our shelves and a huge percentage of any maize meal imports. He was an absolute reprobate at school
He's the big dog behind Hellenic School as well, which is rapidly becoming the best Private School in Zim.
If you attend it you have to learn Greek Orthodox. Theyve employed most good teachers/coaches from other private schools as well. St John's have taken the brunt of it.

The demand for desks at Hellenic and St John's is such that you basically have to put your child's name down at birth, along with a fat deposit.
In fact the the headmaster at St John's is Mr Trinçi, also a Greek. Absolutely delightful gentleman.

It will just never make sense to me. All you have to do is pick the best team and you can quietly make as many fake tenders as you want. I will never get this obsession with transformation. It just seems so personal. Anyone who truly loves a sports team, any sports team, doesn't care if the players are black brown yellow blue or white. They just want to win and at least compete against the better teams

The sables are going to steal their thunder. You will find that most people are actually more rugby fans than cricket fans. Cricket had the advantage of being a well funded machine.

I made a similar point a while ago. Think it was secret who made the argument that the pointy shoe brigade would rather have a poorly performing team and lower revenue than cede any degree control. A team regularly at world cups inevitably would invite some scrutiny around the governance and allocation of funds. They would rather have full control of what they have now then grow it but not have exclusive access to the spending. Only a matter of time until the dead weights would get cut I suppose

Interesting though that the test team is closest to a best xi; you would think they would double down on t20s - it’s where the money is outside the big 3

I'm white, and although this would never happen, if there was ever a sport that excluded black players to put lesser white athletes in, and we got belted repeatedly as a result, I'd actually feel ashamed and make me question if my race is inferior. I'd be embarrassed that it was not earnt, I'd also be ashamed that this came at the cost of someone else just because of their race. The closest equivalent I can think of was Raygun at the olympics.

I actually think this would be the normal position of someone that expects excellence and innovation.

Obviously Zim Cricket do not have these feelings of shame and embarrassment. They are happy to see 'their own' belted repeatedly, as long as its their own. To me this is on the level of cuckolding.

I watch alot of fan comments from black african fans and the impression I get is they are sick to death of it all too and just want the joy of winning.

I have a question to the black African members here, do you feel ashamed in the same way I described in the first paragraph? Or is this a white/asian thing regarding honour only?

I’d say it’s 50/50 among black Zimbabweans. You meet a lot who are over all the bullshit of racial justice etc, unlike 90% of South Africans.

However, my theory on life in general is that power corrupts those with little character (>70% of people) and it seems like whenever we get these guys at the top, they either have always had the mindset of I’m the steerer of this ship and screw those arrogant Rhodesians, or are influenced by those who put them there to do so. The average zimbo black guy hates zanu for example, but should that same average black guy take power tomorrow, would he be corrupt and abusive? Probably.

I realise this is a gross generalisation, and blaming collectively is never constructive, but sadly generalisations exist for a reason.

To Adam Theo, the less we see or hear from him the better, he’s nauseating. To grow up as a white guy in Zimbabwe from birth and to see how this place operates and to still adopt a liberal progressive mindset is astounding. It defies reality and proves that he’s never had an ounce of testosterone ever flow through him.

I'm black and I have lived in Zim all my life. My thoughts below:

There's a subset of Black Zimbabweans who will always prioritise tribal affiliation over merit. Like you said, to them, winning doesn't matter as long as "their own people" are in charge. They despise meritocracies, perhaps because they know they'd struggle in one. Their only path to power is to forcibly occupy key positions and eliminate any threats, especially the competent. By their own warped metrics, they are "succeeding", therefore, shame isn't really part of the equation.

Then there are those who value winning and merit. Do they feel ashamed of their race because a small group of incompetent bottom feeders are f***ing things up? I don't think so. Those in charge of ZC are not representative of the entire race of Black Zimbabweans. In fact, they are hated by most. It's just that they have the guns.

I'm really curious to read other forumites' perspective on this subject. Black or white.

Outstanding Zimbot. Nailed it.
I've been working on a carefully worded epistle, trying not to offend. Nearly done. Have revised it many times
