Afghan Test squad for Zimbabwe tour 2025

Post by Kriterion_BD »

Just noticed the Afghans have picked Ziaur Rahman, the medium pacer. They've also picked a spinning all-rounder in Zia ur Rehman. Interesting selections because neither have a huge pedigree in Tests so far, with the former being totally uncapped in fact.

It appears as though the Afghans want to recreat the Zia magic from Bangladesh's 2013 tour:

I think Rashid Khan has been the difference in every single test match they have won against us. Will be interesting to see how this one goes.

Out test xi will also be very interesting. Some have suggested we will never see a Sogo like Lineup for Zim but I just don't see how the"quota" won't be broken here. Even the random senior player injury won't work because of BT. Unless maybe they drop both Evans and Ngarava because they are "white ball" players at the moment. If we are being honest only Tsiga, Ngarava, Blessing and Chivanga make the 11 on merit right now.

Cremer will make it even harder in the future. I suspect after the first half of the season is over he will be in the squad again. The ODIs will be even worse because Burl is a candidate there too

Depends what is more important to ZC.
1. Success, future opportunities.
2. Some weird racial agenda none of the fans want where they are happy to lose, as long as blacks lose, to prove a point that no one really knows what it is.

It really shouldn't be Cremer. He hasn't played a FC match in so long. Not as if he even had a particularly good test record anyway. I'd also be very worried about Taylor being entrusted with the gloves for 5 days. His fitness seems short of where it needs to be.

Ngarava (and others) ahead of Chivanga, I would have thought. He was pretty poor last week against MCC.

BT seems to struggle with walking down the stairs from the change rooms currently so I think keeping wicket in a Test is probably pushing it.

A rare Harare test match. I wouldn't mind a green mamba and a four man pace attack.

Curran
Bennett
Welch
Williams
Ervine (c)
Taylor
Tsiga (wk)
Evans
Ngarava
Chivanga
Muzarabani

Maybe I should get off the drugs now.
