We have been talking a lot about the Zimbabwe Collapse[TM] in recent times in the forums, but this one takes the cake. Mother of all Zimbabwe Collapses.
And god knows what Utseya had in his mind when he said Murali is not a threat...
No further breakthrough sadly, SL 41-1 from 10 overs at the lunch break.
I've no idea what the next step is, other than this stupid Maruma experiment being knocked on the head by the return of Williams, what can be done ?
There doesn't seem the slightest chance that Taylor will return, no way does it appear that there will be a change of captaincy, Cremer won't get a game while Utseya and Price are there and the seamer option is down to only Mupariwa & Mpofu or Mupariwa/Mpofu & Rainsford.
If Maruma is dropped then the selectors, in their wisdom, may well go for Dabengwa yet again, so no progress if that happens, or Matsikenyeri may get the chop for Williams or Dabengwa.
Politics have chopped Zim cricket off at the knees, there just aren't any experienced reserve players left to bring into the side.
At least the players have regained a little pride in the field, i know the SL batsmen probably wanted some time in the middle, but at least it took them into the 34th over to get home.
The bowling figures all looked quite good but you can't give away 11 wides defending 127.
Nothing against the lad but Maruma must be dropped, a series against Sri Lanka is not the time for a player with L-plates, any of the reserve players would have been a better bet today, Williams, Chakabva or Mutizwa with the bat, Cremer with both bat and ball.
Let's hope that saturday will bring a response from the players.
Fingers crossed also that Masakadza is not going to have problems with his elbow, that would be bad to say the least.
