ok, we can clearly shelve cricketing pride for one test - they've proved that at ZC. It's doesn't matter too much who opens (I'm mentally at 0/1) so let Meth open - in a sort of night-watchman (rep-protection) role - with Tino so we can see how he bowls in Tests - the rest is good

I am sort of on the fence about Meth playing in this game.
They will surely try him out in the 2 day game which is not really a test of any kind (because there is no match pressure) and assess his credentials based on that. Probably will be given the old ball rather than the new ball as Streaky is very much in favor of Vitori and Jarvis and rightly so as they have got the pace which Meth does not. It is mouth watering to think of Vitori, Jarvis and Shingi bowling together. They will get wickets for sure but not after 500 runs or so on the board.
I have to credit the selectors for having chosen the team based on merit with the exception of utseya (should have been Mushangwe). Also I have to congratulate Chakabva on making the cut yet again. Hope young Sauramba puts some good scores together and I am sure he will. Much better technique than this Chakabva or any of the current top order batsmen. I am rather shocked that the the goats are not playing him in all their games.

Poor NCube must be thinking what he had done wrong to be dropped from this side. Honestly I dont think he will do any worse than any of the other bowlers. The attack should hold in the tests but I am still worried about Shingi, he bowls so many overpitched deliveries when I saw him and that is probably the reason why he gets so many wickets. I was kinda surprised with his performance in the stanbic t20.

As far as ODI's are concerned dont even think about any success. It will be repeat of the home series unless Meth opens the attack in all games, and swings the new ball which he does not have to share with his super-expensive partner whoever that might be. I am serious about this. Otherwise I suggest whoever has a betting account to count on NZ winning no matter who is playing or where the game is at.

Matsi lives to fight another day. His date with destiny will arrive soon and hope he does justice to his hidden talents.
Elton makes the cut due to lack of local talent to challenge his spot. Whenever he trundles in to bowl, I check my tv channel to make sure I am not watching club cricket or beach cricket or anything like that because that is where his bowling belongs. May get the odd wicket or two but never threatening to the batsmen. He is sorta like Vinay Kumar who embarrassed himself, captain dhoni and the rest of India at the WACA ground with his pedestrian skills. I hope Elton gets a shot of reality one day when he faces the likes of Gayle or Warner and cannot hide after bowling one or two unproductive overs like he does for the eagles.

I am not excited about any of the batters except Taylor, Taibu and may be Waller. I am looking forward to see Meth justify his talent (he is always the sacrificial lamb when the team fails ) when given a string of games. May be Vitori..

Lets hope they hold off for a draw in the test and atleast get one win on tour.

welcome back ss ... if Taylor takes the opening slot your excitement will quickly be tempered i fear. The batting is surely our weak point and despite my big disappointment at the loss of Mpofu I beleived there was at least bowlers who could come in and cover him (not AS successfully, but would do a decent job). Unfortunately, i don't see it with the batsmen .. .we had a settled semi-functioning line-up with a few 'extras' like Craig and Forster who could fill a middle order slot but up front we had finally found a pair who made some runs and now it's broken. I just don't see a replacement in that squad. Of course, they may fire (whoever it is) but pre-match ie now, i look at the aquad and cannot see an opener to walk out there with Tino. i guess we'll see but right now i'd be happier even if they recalled AC himself let alone Ewing who has actually been doing the job

He's Ndebele, and plays in Matabeleland, that's what he 'did' wrong. If he was Shingirai Masakadza or Tendai Chatara i.e. Shona, then he wouldn't have been dropped with similar stats. Apart from a couple of matches, the bulk we've seen of Vitori was a bowler being canned by the resurgent Bangladeshis, dropped, then reduced to a woeful barren bowler by an effortless Pakistan batting lineup: 27 overs, 118 runs @ 4.37rpo, 0 wickets, before succumbing to a dubious injury. He may be playing in the wrong province, but he's Shona, and like most other bowlers in our FC, ListA & T20 competitions, has had some good returns. So unlike, Ncube, he gets to be picked based on unqualified promise. Some of you are convinced about him, I'm not!

What Ncube has done wrong is only take two wickets per FC match over a several dozen matches.
