I think Rainsford is better than a defensive choice. He is next in line after those in the squad imo. Panyangara isn't a defensive choice either, just a poor one.

I must say his form in that last three or four innings leading up to this game have been umimpressive, and he does seem to choke on the big occassion as well. Back to the drawing board for him, and back to Chakabva I guess for the selectors. So probably Taylor will have to bat at three for this match, and two bowlers still have to give way...
I now see and understand what we mean about yoyo mentality of fans...Chakabva was the source of anguish, and one decent knock (a fine effort at that) and he is the flavor of the match and yes you guessed it he is first on our team sheet....

Well, thanks for that Flower. ;) Was a bit lost on how I was goona respond to the above qsn from betterdays

The payangara debate must stop now. The guy has only ever got one five wicket haul at first class level in his many matches. If he aint ripping it up domestically then why the hell should he don the zimbo shirt?
Rainsford I am in agreement with you, he deserves more chances definetly and hopefully should get a look in soon

I agree that Panyangara,(and indeed Duffin) aren't doing enough to make their inclusion in the national team a formality, but then again, it's not like Rainsford(my other favorite) is streets ahead of Panyangara. They are not striking enough! However, one thing you have to take into consideration is that both of them are seasoned campaigners who have the ability to cramp up batsmen. Which is why a lot of top quality bastmen in our local league struggle to get them away, and play them with caution(yet treat the youngsters with disdain which is why they often succumb to them instead - overconfidence). Now that's something, the other youngsters cannot do at international level, because they are simply not skilled enough!

You allude to Panyangara's not being able to take bags of 5-fors. One can't escape the fact that, just like centuries for batsmen, they are crucial. That's something you arrive at by assessing his overall FC career. To me, Tinashe's figures all round reflect someone of class, by Zim standards. Think of our batsmen - none of that have 45+ averages, in fact, even their FC averages wouldn't normaly be looked at twice by selectors, but we still trust them to deliver, which they ocaasionally do! Those youngsters who do have the stats like Shingi, Chatara, Jarvis, Vitori, Craig, Meth & Forster have proven to be inept at this level, why - they lack experience and maturity!

Quit giving Tinashe a hard time, he is after-all, comparatively the most successful Zim opening bowler! An area in which both your sweethearts, Jarvis & Vitori have already proven to be inferior to him. unlike most, at least he does the job in the only chance(innings) Zim gets :!:

No go watch our greenhorns show NZ just how superior they are to Panyangara & Rainsford, then come back and tell me how pathetic these 'seniors' are! ;)

Tongue in cheek right?!...this after a whole THREE (3) games, and the bulk of his 5 wickets in one of his 3 outings opening!... (ALL of a grand ONE(1) more than Vitori's 4 in his first 2 outings....now that's streets ahead....and who said you were arlarmist hhm?

You know what FlowerPower, my query needs to be rectified! No right-minded statistician includes Bangladesh as opposition(nor Zim for that matter) in any assessment of note. There! Now that looks about right don't you think? ;)

Whichever way you want to look at it, Duffin & Panyangara have better records than all of this lot respectively, soon to be joined by Eddie Rainsford! :D
