Finally someone is used in their rightful place (Matsi in T20) and results are there to be seen.

Taylor is learning, but to bowl Shingi in the final over? I'm not sure what to make of that. He needed to defend (read anyone but Shingi), and not wickets (Shingi).

I agree Conant. Hindsight heroes ;)
Entertaining match, a showcase for Twenty20 cricket really. It was great seeing the Zimbabwean batsmen finally hit their straps, it was a belter of a wicket so despite making 200 it was always going to be close. A shame Zimbabwe couldn't walk away with the win but it's been one of those tours. It's been a wake up call, the NZers have shown there is a lot of room for improvement.

For obvious reasons, from now on Zimbabwe should schedule (or request) the limited overs matches come before the Tests.

Ignored the form bowler of the innings
NIGGA PLEASE
 Just for good measure, I sought to verify this

Shingi is actually the most expensive bowler in Zimbabwean history(thought it was Chamu)!

Actually, ss has been the case for most of our limited overs series, our attack was made up of three of the worst six seamers in history(the two spinners belong in the top 6 of all time)! The form bowler of the innings you refer to - Elton - ranks higher than the other three losers - so he was the right option considering his vastly superior experience. ;)

Interestingly, the top ten(tied10&11), is comprised of 5 spinners and 6 seamers. Of those six seamers, one of them is still active and firing - Rainsford! :D Perplexingly he continues to be asent from our squads, let alone XIs!

Conant, Elton I think quite a number of people, even BRM, while lauding his striking abilities, have always lamented Shingi's wayward&expensive bowling! In all my mentions of him, I remain against use of him at international level, even if he tops the charts in all 3 formats. Elton for me remains a better bet in all formats than these poor youngsters(Jarvis picked up his wickets in the 19th over-his fourth, when the opposition already had 180 on the board)! While some say/hae said he's rubbish, I continue to prefer him instead!

Very good points FlowerPower! Except for one - Taylor is NOT learning. If he is, then all his learned is rubbish! You've been missing in action....

Comment #1 in the thread, and very prophetic. He did, we didn't.

Shingi: I saw him being given the ball for the final over, and immediately knew we'd lose. He'd bowled only 1 other over in the match, and got smacked to all corners in it - he may be a good death bowler usually, but this wasnt the time to take a chance on it.

That said: otherwise generally pleased with the match, we fought properly. Bloody disgrace that we didn't play like that all series.

Haven't most forumers been agreeing all along that Shingi is an excellen dearth bolwer, and quite nerveless, with pedigree in the dearth bowling in comparison against the rest of his teammates, incuding thae 8 runs he defended against West Indies in his very first international; and today we are shocked, totally shocked he was handed the ball? Well, aren't we all so wise with hindsight!!

I don't remember Elton over bowling a last over in the recent past, zimdoggy; and till recently he was "rubbish", and today he was supposed to bowl a match winning last over? Curious. And also incredible that we can judge form over four overs. No, make that two
I agree here, personally in the form and mindset of these NZ cats it didnt matter who took the ball in that last over they were going to get smoked. I knew we wouldnt be able to defend those 14 runs. Maybe Shingi put his hand up when everyone else chickened out. We will only know one day when Taylor writes his book... It was close and would have loved to win, but I dont blame Shingi. Zim hit 17 off the last over, Bracewell went for 11 in the last T20. This just happens I will still have Shingi in the T20 world cup.

I never once agreed or said that Shingi was good.

In this instance however, Taylor needs to use smart and think about his decision when choosing his last over bowler.

Shingi who bowled one over and did nothing significant.

or

Elton who bowled two overs. Was economical and took two wickets.

Its really just about being smart and using your head in this situation. Also bowling full toss and on the feet do not help in the last over. You have got to be at the feet, not on it and you have to never bowl full toss.

Williamson won the match. 20 off 5 is unbelievable hitting. We were looking good to take it out but he won it. It was not a case of us having a shocker. Give that guy some respect.

Kane Williamson is a prodigious talent, we will be hearing a lot from him for a long time to come.

Of that I have no doubt! I rate him highly. Funny enough, despite that 20 out of 5, I wouldn't have him in their T20 sides, and certainly not their ODI sides for some time. Let him do an Amla! ;)
