Is This The Best Since The Rebels

Post by zimfan1 »

dozing in bed last night thinking about our great victory led me to wonder weather this is the best side we have had since the rebels left in 2004

as i believe this side is very well balanced with 3 pacers and 3 spinners and batsman who have the potential to score runs

as i bowling and fielding unit i believe in odi's we can compete with most around the world as we do not give away many extras and our bowlers bowl very tight,

i think we are on the way up and if these group of players can stay together we can have some success, if we can beat Bangladesh and they are playing test cricket this will either help us return in the near future or cause Bangladesh to loose there own test status

the real problem seems to be depth becasue at the moment apart from these 15 players we only realy have another 4 or 5 who could possibly make it in international cricket, looks like we will be waiting for the net batch of under 15's to come through in 2 or 3 years time if they stick around

We will have a clearer idea once the tours of Bangladesh and Kenya are over. Questions marks still hover over Matsikenyeri and Dabengwa I think, both pull out the occasional half-decent performance but haven't ever played with any sort of consistency. I feel that both are selected because they played a good game a few games ago, not because they are experiencing consistently good form. It will be interesting to see how these 2 go on the remainder of the tour. Remember that Chibhabha will be staking his claim to get back in the team, so I think there will be pressure on Matsikenyeri and Dabengwa to perform.

As far as the batting goes, I think it is just unfortunate that all of our batsmen are experiencing a form slump at the same time. We know guys like Williams and Masakadza can get good scores. Once the top order clicks again I think 240 is a comfortable score for us.

No way is this anything like the best since the rebels, the 2005 team was 100times better, and performed against india and NZ. Could you imagine the carnage if we played any of those two now?

We didnt deserve to win on monday, and even though it was great to watch and see, it was still a dismal performance. However Bangladesh played even worse which is why i am not feeling any better about our situation. Happiness is again on the streets and in the papers, but we are far from anywhere of note.

Win this series and the kenya series and there maybe some hope, anything but that creates a dire situation, even more dire than our current one.

Watch this space.

im not relay counting the 2005 series against new Z and India as that was for just one series and it was always clear to most people that they wouldn't stick around for long

On the contrary, I have started feeling that this is the worst our batting has ever been. The bowling is truly on the brighter side. This bowling unit can actually give a run for the money to the attack of Heath Streak era, where, most of the times, he was the lone warrior. But during his time, Bangladesh was an easy pushover. These days, we rejoice even the hard fought wins. :(

It seems everyone has hit a form slump as far as batting is concerned, and as brmtaylor.com admin says, all we need is a coach like Robin Brown to turn it around.

I agree with what Brmtayloradmin.com said, we will have a clearer picture after the 2 series (BD & KN). Bowling for me has some bright spots, we should however build up and keep it on a consistent level. Batting had me a bit worried, they still a bit shaky, suppose we were to play a stronger side like India it would be worrying. We should get used to beating teams on their backyards though, great stuff we did to the Bangladeshis :)
