Double Role:
Can you remember Douglas Hondo? The pacer with a long hair who took 6 wickets in the 1st innings of Dhaka test and troubled Bangladesh. He is with the Zimbabwean team. But the role has changed,he isnt the bowler but the bowling coach. That means has Douglas Hondo stopped playing cricket.
Tatenda Taibu has said,
"No.He will return to the national side again".
Hondo also added,
"In the last week before coming here I have taken 5 wickets giving 17 runs in the club cricket. Now I am bowling even better than before".
But after coaching the bowler of the national side why he is fighting to return in the national side.
Hondo said,
"In 2005 I was out of cricket for one and a half year due to my back injury. Then I started coaching. After recovering from injury I am playing cricket too."
Now Douglas Hondo wants to continue both.

He's hardly going to be a match winning bowler against international opposition, but anything that gives increased strength in depth is to be welcomed.

Good idea! But I think,Walter Chawaguta's age of 36 wont support him much and very much less experience even in the first class level with only playing 6 FC match and 1 List A match and moreover scoring 0 & 2 in his last FC match in 2007.CrimsonAvenger wrote:Looking at this, and the dismal batting performance, even Walter Chawaguta would want to try his hands as a batsman at this level.
Hondo is much experienced and he isnt too old,29 years old.I think,he has got something left in him which he can give to the national side. But he struggled in the national side by averaging in the mid 30s in both ODIs and tests. And the pacers of Zimbabwe are doing well. All these fact will be a matter of concern...
But lets see what happens!

so which player is he looking at displacing, Rainsfor, Mupariwa/ Mpofu....i doubt if he is good enuff to be a 12th man

12.4 Odhiambo to Vermeulen, FOUR, that's an appalling long hop, Vermulen had plenty of time to get into position, drink a cup of tea, and pull the ball towards the long leg boundary- his first boundary today

Re: Douglas Hondo wants to return in the national side!
Indeed,it will be very difficult for Douglas Hondo to make the squad as the pace department of Zimbabwe consisting of Edward Rainsford,Tawanda Mupariwa,Christopher Mpofu and Elton Chigumbura is doing well.
So,if Hondo has a solid intention to return in the international cricket, first he should play some FC match and make his way back to international cricket by giving good performance there.I think,it will be a hard task for him after recovering from back injury. It's known that his career was hampered by injury all through and his last first class match way back in 2005.
