Re: Match Thread: Kenya v Zimbabwe, 5th ODI
Dabengwa is probably the only one that deserves to be completely omitted from the squad for the time being.
I think Waller has probably shown enough promise to be retained, but I think realistically he will also be dropped and given some time in the Zimbabwe A team to develop. I think for Malcolm this has been an important learning curve for him, but importantly the 68 he scored shows he knows how to score runs. So I think he will definitely stay in the selectors minds. I think he should definitely play in India when the time comes as that will be very important for his development.
Williams should be safe. The only reason he hasn't scored more runs on this tour is due to injury.
Based on this Kenyan tour, Matsikenyeri has done enough to keep his place in the first eleven. But against any other opposition, I don't think he would have done as well as he has.
Sibanda would have to be walking a tightrope at the moment. I'd be inclined to keep him in the squad for squad depth, but on current form he wouldn't be my first choice opener. Which begs another question, who should be opener? Probably worth creating a new topic about this question alone once this match is over.

i am still confident that williams will quit again after this tour i am afraid
but i think we are starting to put together around 20-25 players that can be used over the next five years

Who said Matsikenyeri was batting well ?
It could well be a very handy 50 for him, one which will have him stay as a regular for a while longer, and who knows, he may become the batsman that everyone thought he was going to be when he first represented his country.
102-3 after 20 overs is certainly better than 2-2 after 1.1 overs, we just need Masakadza to settle down and not do anything rash.

all i know is apparently his dad has been saying that he is not sure if he will be coming back to zimbabwe, he aprrantly has said that it depending on how things go in kenya
i know that he really doesn't like the management team and does not think that they want to team to win as they are putting politics in front of the teams success
i also know that he wants to be playing more matches so the canada tour and the india trip should help along with the possibility of sri lanka,
but on the other hand he is always moaning about touring as he doesn't like traveling, so who knows, i believe he is behaving like a spoilt kid as he has this god given given talent but seems to wasting it
we all know that he is the best batsman we have after Taylor but i cant see him playing for Zimbabwe at the end of the year ( i hope i am wrong i really do as he is class)
ill try and find out more and keep you posted?

Matsikenyeri is very inconsistent, we should not forget that we are playing against Kenya who have a weak attack. He has proved he cant handle pressure and for someone who has played in almost all the different kinds of pitches we should not give hom any more chances unless he improves. If we can manage to drop Chibhabha then Stuart should go aswell. Vusi is one of most Zimbabwe favorite players but he is not doing well and should be dropped
12.4 Odhiambo to Vermeulen, FOUR, that's an appalling long hop, Vermulen had plenty of time to get into position, drink a cup of tea, and pull the ball towards the long leg boundary- his first boundary today

That last single has taken Williams past Andy Waller, 818, and up to 20th highest run scorer for Zim in ODI's.
He has some way to go now to catch up with Chamu Chibhabha, 928, Paul Strang, 1090, and then Dion Ebrahim, 1443.
I very much hope that he gives himself the chance to do so ......
