BRONDON TAYLOR TO PLAY IN FAITHWARE

Post by zimfan1 »

ZIMBABWE’S who is who of the game square of in the compelling contests of class as the Faithwear Series 2009 starting this Saturday roars into life at Harare Sports Club and CFX Academy in Highlands in a showcase of premier local cricket.

National team players are set in opposing teams with Easterns and Northerns on paper looking strong enough to take the bragging rights at the end of slalom next Saturday. That the two squares off in the second round of the matches at the CFX Academy makes it one of the highlights of the rounds.

Zimbabwe captain Prosper Utseya, Hamilton Masakadza, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Foster Mutizwa, Douglas Hondo, Shingi Masakadza, Timycen Maruma and Johnson Maruma will line up for Easterns when they open their account against Centrals at CFX Academy on Saturday.

Centrals who feature Zimbabwe opener Vusimuzi Sibanda, Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Tafadzwa Kamungozi, Friday Kasteni, Erick Chauluka and latest batting sensation cum all rounder Roger Kahiya will offer an appetizing contest for the fans, making this season’s series ones to look forward to on every match day.

But it is the line up featuring world class wicketkeeper-batsman and former Zimbabwe captain Tatenda Taibu, opener Brendan Taylor, all rounder Elton Chigumbura, spinner Raymond Price, Regis Chakabva, Graeme Cremer and Trevor Garwe that look firm favourites for the title come round six.

That Northerns with such an awesome cast open against a seemingly lightweight Westerns featuring Mark Vermuelen, Sean Williams, Charles Coventry, Keith Dabengwa, Chris Mpofu and one of the best bowlers in the game today Tawanda Mupariwa, slightly gives them an edge to take the lead from the onset.

But cricket being the game of technique and the ability to deliver, surprises can not be ruled out in the series – something that makes the game what it is. With each of the four teams boasting national team and Zimbabwe A representation, the level of contest will surely not be as one sided as witnessed in the just ended National League where Takashinga 2 rode roughshod on teams.

The quality of players runs through all the four squads below and this series threatens to take all in its flight to memory. Let Saturday set for contests to ensue.

Easterns – Hamilton Masakadza(capt), Stuart Matsikenyeri, Foster Mutizwa (w/keeper), Johnson Maruma, Timycen Maruma, Prosper Utseya, Shingi Masakadza, Silent Mujaji, Steady Musoso, Philimon Kadzitye Natsai Mushongwe, Douglas Hondo, Steven Nyamuzinga, Tendai Chatara, Bezer Sanyika, Donald Tiripano Northerns – Tatenda Taibu, Brandon Taylor, Regis Chakabva (w/keeper), Cephas Zhuwawo, Benard Mlambo, Sam Mwakayeni, Elton Chigumbura (capt), Raymond Price, Admire Manyumwa,Trevor Garwe, Graeme Cremer, Tinabel Chimbambo, Patient Charumbira, Pete Moore, Clement Rizibhowa, Mohammad Bala, Tinotenda Mutombodzi

Centrals – Chamunorwa Chibhabha (capt), Eric Chauluka, Richmond Mutumbami, Robert Chinyengetere, Bothwell Chapungu, Malcom Waller, Tafadzwa Kamungozi, Tendai Chisoro, Mike Chinouya, Rememberence Nyathi, Solomon Mire, Tendai Chitongo, Simbarashe Gupo, Nathan Waller, Vusimuzi Sibanda, Friday Kasteni, Alester Maregwede (w/keeper), Roger Kahiya

Good to see Taylor's name on the list - the sides named are actually quite decent. One thing I notice, though:

Thank you and congratulation Zimfan 1.You have completed your 400 posts here.3rd batsmen after brmtaylor.com admin and maehara

I am very excited hearing the news.Really the former players are coming back.Yes,I also think that he will be available for national selection as Brendan Taylor isnt named in the 'A' team.Hopefully I will not see Dabengwa in the national team.He never deserves a place!

The inclusion of Brendan Taylor will be a big boost as far as the batting strength is concerned for Zimbabwe.Taylor is treated as a world class batsmen.Experienced with 75 ODIs and 10 tests under his belt.

brmtaylor.com admin whats your reaction? Fast! ;)

Well,I hv no idea abt it.I reckon brmtaylor.com admin can tell abt it in details.

But I intend to see some of the former players back in domestic action in Zimbabwe.Players like Mark Vermeulen should be given chance to play FC cricket in Zimbabwe while
Brendan Taylor,Charles Covemtry,Barney Rogers,Douglas Marillier and Tinashe Panyangara should return to Zimbabwe to play FC cricket. They all are the players of new generation(except Marillier who ages 30).But I know my intention isnt going to happen really
It is happening really.Within 1 month after this we have got Vermeulen,Coventry and Taylor back.Looking forward to see what happens with Rogers,Marillier and Panyangara.I think one day Panyangara will be back as well. Not sure about the position of Rogers and Marillier.

But it's true things are really changing in Zimbabwe and changing quickly.I also think that it is the best week of Zimbabwean cricket after many years. Before this we used to hear players are leaving not coming back,Now we have started hearing players are coming back.I hope we will continue hearing this.

Fantastic news, if it's true, i won't fully believe it until he has actually taken guard in the first game.

Where is Ed Rainsford ?

Where is Bonaparte Mujuru ?

Where is Taurai Muzarabani ?

Where is Bradley Staddon ?

It will be interesting to see which players actually take part in the competition, especially to see whether Tatenda Taibu plays.

Cricinfo has posted an article about Faithware tournament:

Link: http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/zimbabw ... 92248.html
The most surprising name on the team lists is that of Brendan Taylor, who opted to spend the last few months playing club cricket in Australia after spending the northern summer in Europe. Mark Vermeulen also returns after showing good form at club level.
