Kamungozi rode his luck in Bangladesh and the first few games of this WC, but the bowler we saw today is the bowler that he is (in my opinion). He doesn't turn it, there's no drift... it's military medium and any half decent side should be able to handle it with ease.zimbos_05 wrote:The thing is, if he isn't going to threaten, then he shouldn't just be picked for economy, particularly not if he is meant to be the frontline spinner. Williams is doing a decent enough job of the economy, and he he took two wickets against UAE. A side you would expect your specialist front line spinner to threaten and maybe take the wickets. Against SA Kamungozi was not threatening either. He got the wicket, but i think more of that is owed to Ervine rather than the bowler. Not his fault in the SA game fully considering we went ultra defensive and opened up the field, but it was not as if Williams got punished too bad too.jaybro wrote:grant wrote:Atleast Kamungozi has not been as expensive as the seamers....
Yeah he is doing his job, he would probably complement a good seam attack very well keeping it tight and letting the seamers strike from the other end .....
Thing is you cant drop a batsman for a front line bowler when your batting is not as strong as the other sides. You also cant drop a front line seamer when your number 3 and 4 seamer/all rounder are not performing and doing a job. In both games we had the opportunity to kill off the game but didn't because we didn't have that extra punch. We defended in the field and we bowled erratically. The 3rd and 4th seamer take up 20 overs. You cant afford those 20 overs to be an easy 6 runs an over. Your spinners need to keep the pressure on too in the middle overs. Miller and Duminy just nudged them around and picked up easy ones and twos. It set them up for the big push at the end. The other bowlers need to help out the seamers. If teams have wickets towards the end or are scoring flowingly at 6 an over coming in to the last ten, then the fast bowlers are rife for the picking.
Need to find another spinner. Whether that's getting Cremer back (I wish so much for this), getting Utseya to bowl spin again (we've all been guily of underrating him... a sub 5 economy off spinner would be pretty bloody valuable right about now) or plucking an 18yo out of nowhere and hoping for the best... it's got to be a better proposition than Kamungozi.
