I'm not getting too excited if he can't the first team of a club side in Zimbabwe .....

All he needs is the backing of an internet forum.
PJ Moor got parachuted into the ODI team without scoring a run in domestic cricket on the back of Moormania. So I believe we can quite easily get Jakiel a FC cap by the end of the season.

I wasnt there on Sunday. But my take is Tatenda Mupunga and Tino Mafusire really bowled poorly to let the game slip away. Batting wise as a club we have analysed the past 4 seasons and if a team scores 250 there is a 78% win rate , 265 89% win rate and 300 plus 93% win rate. I must commend OH as they really up their game considering that we have had a 9 week preseason while OH started their preseason 3 weeks back. OH has one of the most potent front two with Diplock and Munyoro and Diplock with only the pair of Taylor and Culum Price up at Country Club being the best pair in Zimbabwe. Diplock needs to get his chance this year . Considering the battling line up we had with Gazza and Zambuko there we should have posted at least 300 on Sunday and so we lost. As for OH batting Yaser Parker and Zaheer Taufill should have converted for bigger scores. As expecetd the Bully got going fast as Tino failed to bowl the corrrect back of a length to the bully, Diplock well true allrounder and should really be batting at 5 or 6 won the game. As for the Rainbow bowling the stand out this year is going to be Brighton Zhawi who has benefited from nets sessions with Mitch Johnson and with Zimbabwe and he should play some List A and First Class cricket this year. Brandon Mavhuta good leggy and once he gets to land 6 good balls his economy will improve.
In my opinion i wish Zimbabwean Fans would come an see club action regularly and see the level of cricket being played.
gargamel, just to follow on from your comment about Mitch Johnson - how useful are the tours by top countries like Australia and South Africa?
Does the touring party impart a lot of knowledge on to the local players? Or was it just a case of Johnson being a good bloke and helping some of the guys out off his own bat?
From my chats with the guys the first objective is to get dolled out some gear and shirts by the touring nations one such case saw a young lad get a full kit bag from Mitch Marsh for returning his i Phone Zhawi got a pair of new bowling shoes from Mitch Johnson.
As for knowledge and skills transfer the Aussies , SAFA;s , Indians and Pakistanis are always keen to pass on some skills though they spend about an hour in the nets as opposed to our Zimbabwean 6 hour sessions. The windies have been found to be arrogant and difficult to approach .The guys who benefit from their time with the pros are the net bowlers who are mainly club players or fringe franchise bowlers .

Daniel is a good bowler and i rate him to be the best exponent of a yorker in Zimbabwe. He is still learning how to move the ball and dosnt have short ball yet but he makes it up in maturity at the death he will win games at the death. The problem is our current setup we tend to bowl teams out within 35 overs and so cant really see his skills. He did out bowl Brad Evans in the national league game in Bulawayo 2 seasons back so just give him time
Yesterday the Harare Metro Cricket Association First League teams met with the League Committee Chairman and The Director of Game Development Mr Givemore Makoni. The purpose of the meeting was to clarify the reason of the postponement of league the Vigne Cup First League. The meeting was held in good sound spirits and those present were able to glean into the future plans for club cricket in ZImbabwe.
Firstly - All Grounds must pass an inspection to qualify to be considered suitable for first league cricket. This requires a ground to have a rolling scoreboard, covers , and boundary ropes on the field/ stones or bricks. The main criteria item is on the quality of the deck if it meets first league standards this will be assesed by the national curator. ZC has committed to have grass cut and to assist where possible with items such as covers and and boundary ropes and the assistance of the national curator to develop the league.
Secondly- The Vigne Cup first league will receive ISHAN 750 match balls every week along with Umpires. Mr Makoni has indicated that within Zimbabwe there are only 9 Umpires across the country of which during the upcoming tour schedule only 2 umpires may be available to meet league fixtures. ZC has taken it upon its self to go on a recruitment drive to get more local Umpires around the country.
Third Item: Mr Makoni confirmed that the ZPL will be one round with 7 rounds of cricket with teams traveling around Zimbabwe to play each other. The ZPL will taken as a platform for National and Franchise selection. The games will see the teams being kitted out in colored clothing with a match white ball being used.
Fourth Item: The club seasons will see all leagues commencing in Winter this is to keep players match fit and to do away with players just hanging around sports club doing nothing.
Fifth Item: All national team and Franchise players must be members of a club. The basis of national selection will also depend on players being active players at a club based on the restructuring. The reason that players have avoided club cricket is apparently to the poor standard of games in the league and lack of competitions something that was scoffed at by all the club represented.
