Zimbabwe should go with five regular bowlers

Post by asif »

Asif Ali ........................From Pakistan

I really can't understand that what is in their mind, your bowling line is already targeted by bangladesh's in first ODI & you are still going with four regular bowlers. All the teams around the world now playing with five regular bowlers & the Zimbabwean captin or coach are still with four regular bowlers.

One thing they should understand that a bowler can bat on his day but a batsman can't bowl well. In other words ever one can bat but every one can't bowl because it’s too much difficult in current cricket rules.

Therefore it's enough for chibhabha, in 1st match he gave 50 runs in just 6.3 overs and scores just 7 runs and in 2nd match once again he gave 51 in just 5 overs and just made 8. Now it's time to get a regular bowler like Mupariwa. Who has a record of fastest 50 wkts for Zimbabwe & he can also bat in last over.

He done it in past in 2006 against Bangladesh when they need 9 runs per over & he stood with Taylor & made 37 runs to gave Zimbabwe a historic win. In other words if chibhabha making just under ten runs in each inning then Mupariwa will surely get more runs.

Bangladesh batsmen played well against the spinners as we saw in last two matches therefore Zimbabwe should go with three seamers as Heath Streak said before the series started.

An other option they have that put waller in the eleven on for Matiskenyeri and they can also try Sibanda as opener on for Masakadza because he had a hundred against Bangladesh as an opener which can give an edge to team Zimbabwe.

Share your veiws about it.

Best of Luck Zimbabwe

Only reason I can think of for the bowling choices is that they're trying to cover for the Zimbabwe Collapse™ by packing the side with batsmen - but you're quite right, it's a tactic that hasn't worked, as Bangladesh have been taking the part-timers to the cleaners. Didn't help that Rainsford wasn't particularly on form yesterday, either...

Agree...I think, you are right Zimbabwe is sticking with a batting line up containing 8 batsmen keeping in mind the collapse. But it didn't work. Bowling has been rather poor especially from the end of 5th bowler. They should go with 5 frontline bowlers. I guess, 3 seamers and 2 spinners sounds perfect. Batting has been much okay for Zimbabwe but the bowling let them down.

I think every players should play his role we cannot have other people covering other people. Lets just go the normal route 4 bowlers, 1 all rounder, 6 batsman. We can not play in bits and pieces and expect to get results.

In the last ODI, Chibhabha, Masakadza, and Williams gave away 80 runs in 8 overs they bowled. I don't think having a specialist batsman (or allrounder) at #8 position will help Zimbabwe make up the extra runs part time bowlers giving away.

well said Asif, these all rounders are not doing Zim any good infact the one true all rounder i know is Elton the other guys never get both departments right lets hope we see Mpariwa and Rainsford open the bowling today
12.4 Odhiambo to Vermeulen, FOUR, that's an appalling long hop, Vermulen had plenty of time to get into position, drink a cup of tea, and pull the ball towards the long leg boundary- his first boundary today

Zimbabwe indeed needs a 5th frontline bowler either Cremer or Rainsford. The part-timers went for 92 runs in 12 overs and that's really high...
