Bangladesh and Zimbabwe Fielding Concerns. Solution?

Post by bullseye28 »

The amount of catches dropped by both teams (numerically Bangladesh outnumbering Zimbbawe) in the 4 One dayers so far is simply appalling to say the least.

This becomes particularly critical if you drop a key or set batsman

I am not even talking about half chances . I am talking about simple regulation catches that is expected to be taken at this level of One day Matches .

When a catch is dropped it has serious effect on the suffering bowler, Captain and Team.

This becomes all the more difficult on a batting paradise pitches as the ongoing series are being held where chances are already difficult to come by and when it does come and it is floored it can be a very demoralizing and shattering experience for all and sundry.

It is believed by many that Fielding Coaches with Baseball background can be very effective.

I do not know how many Cricket Playing nations have a Fielding Coach with a baseball background (maybe somebody can volunteer and provide inputs)

I am unaware of Fielding coach of Zimbabwe. But the manner in which they missed sitters suggests they need a better Fielding Coach if they were to become a more competitive team.

For either sides Bowlers cannot help much if they are not supported by Fielders with proper skills to take regulation and slightly difficult catches if not half chances.

The last time I heard that Bangladesh has a local Fielding Coach.

The manner in which Bangladesh Players dropped catches at crucial times give the impression that our players have failed to acquire basic catching skills that has indeed cost them dearly.

The way Raqibul, Mahmudullah dropped simple chances are unforgiving.

If Bangladesh is unable to find a competent expatriate Fielding Coach they can always approach ICC Cricket Development Management for assistance to find one.

Why James Siddons have not seriously looked into this aspect is indeed very surprising or perhaps it may be a case of who is to bell the cat?

Their will be no problem of finding a Sponsor (Grameen Phone I am sure will be happy to come forward now that the team has done remarkably well(3 consecutive One day series win and a Test series as well).

It took two years for them to understand that Ash is no Captaincy material and since he has been replaced it is for everybody to see the difference and remarkable turn around.

I wonder why it is taking BCB so much time to understand that the quality of fielding is substandard especially in the area of taking simple regulation catches. The ground fielding looks okay if not something extraordinary.

So before the next series with Zimbabwe starting in October the BCB seriously need to consider hiring an Expatriate Qualified and Competent Fielding Coach preferably of baseball background who will be able to restore some sanity and respectability of our Fielding Standard.

Bangladesh has an excellent fielding coach in Salahuddin. I believe fatigue is the main reason our boys are doing so poorly in the field this series.

Exhaustness had definitely grapsed the Bangladesh players. They were on a total of 51 days tour in WI and Zim respectively. But I have seen Bangladeshi fielders dropping catches in the past also and that costed a match or so. Bangladesh should improve in this department surely. But for me, I would like to appoint an overseas fielding coach for Bangladesh to make them fluent in this department like the way Jonty Rhodes helped the South African fielders despite he was also from their home not a foreigner for them.
