Domestic season delayed by 3 weeks

Post by Train Driver »

It has been reported that the Cricket Committee have decided to delay the start of the domestic season by 3 weeks in order to allow the franchises to complete the signings of their players, including the allocation of 17 former players who are in negotiations with the franchises but are as yet unsigned, whatever that may mean.

Nothing like leaving it to the last minute.

Although that makes it sound as though at least some of the franchises don't have full squads yet, which would be a bit of a problem...

11. Greg Lamb?
12. Piet Rinke?

17 Former Players

Confirmed:

1. (26) Barney Rogers (Northerns)
2. (26) Terrence Duffin (Matabeleland Tuskers)
3. (28) Dion Ebrahim (Matabeleland Tuskers)
4. (28) Gavin Ewing (Matabeleland Tuskers)
5. (33) Trevor Gripper (Northerns)
6. (31) Douglas Marillier
7. (24) Stephan Marillier
8. (27) Campbell MacMillan
9. (20) Keegan Meth

Guess:

10. (27) Greg Lamb
11. (28) Piet Rinke
12. (21) Ryan Higgins
13. (24) Tinashe Panyangara
14. (24) Anthony Ireland
15. (30) Neil Ferreira
16. (28) Travis Friend
17. (30) Andy Blignaut
18. (32) Brian Murphy
19. (23) Craig Ervine
20. (20) Ryan Ervine
21. (25) Geogary Strydom
22. (28) Mluleki Nkala

WILD GUESS:

23. (30) David Mutendera
24. (32) Dirk Viljoen

Both are in the Zimbabwe Cricket Committee. It's been reported that Mutendera played some club cricket matches a year or a couple of years ago. Though Viljoen is now a commentator and also pushing for a coaching job likely, but I think he has still got some years as a cricketer left in him or his career will remain unfulfilled. But he has to work in his fitness a bit.

Gavin Ewing is a friend of a friend on facebook and left a wall message saying that whilst there had been talks there wasn't any talk of a contract. he is however planning on taking a holiday in Zim so who knows...

other players no one seem to mention are Duncan Bradshaw (currently playing first class cricket for the Oxford UCCE) and Glen Querl who I believe has played for MCC young cricketers. I might be wrong but I think they both played Zim U19

No chance im afriad :(

Bradshaw has not played junior cricket in Zimbabwe but Querl did play in the 2004 under 19 world cup in Bangladesh, but its very unlikely that they will ever return to Zimbabwe cricket
