Building the T20 WC Squad

Post by ZIMDOGGY »

Time to turn our attention to the World cup.

What team should go?

So far we have

Batsman:

Hamilton (guaranteed)
Waller (Guaranteed)
Williams (Guaranteed)
Vusi (very probable)
Craig Ervine (very probable)

All rounders
luke Jongwe (probable)
Sikander Raza (Very Probable)

Keeper
PJ Moor (Very probable)

Bowlers:
Cremer (guaranteed)
Panyangara (Very probable)
Chisoro (probable)

Thats 11 out of 15.
of which at least two have to be seamers and another have bowling ability.
Youd also have to think that Elton will be on the plane as well despite his form.

what are your other 3?

The only guaranteed drop from this squad in 'Desh you would have to think is Muzarabani.

I think they will add Mutumbami, Madziva and Wellington to your list. However, the best lineup on the basis of current forms of the players should be something like below:

Hami(capt)
Vusi
Sean
Waller
Craig
Raza
PJ(wk)
Jongwe
Cremer
Wellington/Chisoro
Panny

mutumbami is also likely, yes.
However i think Regis is putting his case forward.

shingi and mpofu should be considered as well.

Richard Muzhange as a smokie?

Oh yes, if PJ isn't comfortable with the gloves it's better we give one more chance to Regis. I am not a huge fan of Mutumbami and he shouldn't be considered in ODIs and test matches. But, it looks like he can score quick runs in t-20s, so having him in the WC wouldn't be a big problem. I would be very upset if they pick Muzarbani again for the WC. Muzhange could be a very good t-20 specialist bowler, not sure about Shingi and Bobby. Tiripano and Mupariwa could be tested too.

I wouldn't have Craig in the team unless there are really no other options. His record in this format is terrible: ave 15.3 @ 79.8 ! He is a great stroke maker but just isn't really suited to T20s, Amla is someone else in this mould.

Side note: Cremer looks like he might crack into the top 10 rated T20 bowlers soon after taking wickets in every game he's bowled in since the start of the india series. This would very refreshing to a see a Zim up there in rankings considering the last time we had one of our bowlers in the top 10 it was Utseya.

I feel Craig needs to take a leaf out of Vusi's book since his return, dont fuck around just play your shots .......

The seamers are a real problem, we really need a domestic t20 comp to see who can actually bowl well under pressure .....

Muzarabani has to go. I hope he doesnt even get a game in the domestic comp as he has proven he hasnt got wat it takes. Rather give untried talent a go. Will be interesting to see if Muzhange still has it as he was excellent wen we thrashed SA twice in 2012

We need a specialist keeper, to keep the runs down and contribute a wicket or two per match, seeing as our seamers are pretty useless at the moment. When Mutumbami's on song, he's very sharp, when he isn't, it can look embarrasssing.

Can't he do a wicketkeeping bootcamp with Wayne james, or something similar
Peterhouse U14C 4th change bowler and no. 10 batsman (but only because Aaron didn't have a bat).

Hehe chamunorwa chibhabha unnoticed into oblivion. But i would still put him ahead of craig for t20s anyday. Meanwhile our selectors would have started licking their lips seeing brian chari and reggie perform in an A game played in somewhat like a college ground,..(not to mention, reggie is coming back after scoring a ton in the pro50..)..given the notoriety of our selectors its fair to expect them to be named in the squad.*facepalm*..
I still hold my apprehensions about vusi..as the Dogg says, hope he doesn't frustrate us by doing anything vusi-like in the near future ..i would sideline him from the odi side though, along with waller.
I dont mind if elton is given one last chance, but only if he surrenders the captaincy.
