I won't be surprised if BD make the semis at least. After that, luck would also have a say.

Re: 2016 U-19 World Cup
Bangladesh have historically choked at u19 level. Our 2006 team had Shakib, Tamim, and Mushfiq and was at the very worst the 2nd strongest team, behind only India. We topped the group, ahead of eventual champs Pakistan, and faced an England side we had beaten 10-0 the previous year in the QF. Lost to that match and ended up 5th place.
This year again, the only team that can beat us is India.

As zimfan1 put it a few years ago, Nepal are the perennial overachievers in U19 world cups. They must have had similar scalps over the years. Really strange how this does not translate to better senior team performance. The senior team was looking good recently but the effect of the severe earthquake last year would have affected their cricket badly too.

I think they've beaten SA twice and Pak once in previous world cups.CrimsonAvenger wrote:As zimfan1 put it a few years ago, Nepal are the perennial overachievers in U19 world cups. Do you know if the BCCI do anything for Nepal the way Australia have taken PNG under their wings recently, like inviting them for tours or training camps?

Hardly, at U19 level, NZ and SL are almost minnows. I think England are close to minnow status too. Nepal on the other hand are like Ireland, regular giant killers.jaybro wrote:Nepal just beat NZ, is this the biggest upset in the History of cricket ??
Should be BD vs Nepal quarter which should pave the way for our first semifinal appearance.

Re: 2016 U-19 World Cup
BD has been a solid U19 side for a decade 2006-present before it yielded results for the senior team. It will take Nepal a while too, but they should eventually become one of the leading associates, maybe by 2025.CrimsonAvenger wrote:As zimfan1 put it a few years ago, Nepal are the perennial overachievers in U19 world cups. I remember reading something on the lines of training camp in Dharamshala sometime back, but not sure. They must play in our domestic circuit for sure, we have some inconsequential teams like Services and Railways (once very successful) making up the numbers in the Ranji Trophy.foreignfield wrote:Do you know if the BCCI do anything for Nepal the way Australia have taken PNG under their wings recently, like inviting them for tours or training camps?

Curran strikes twice in his first over...2 fpr 3 so far, and 5 for 25 for the tournament! Getting it up to 131 kph as well.
