No under 19s from possibly our best squad in nearly 10 years?
What a joke

Re: [Match Thread] Rhinos v Eagles (Logan Cup)
The need for a fifth franchise or at least an academy side in the First Class system has become more evident by the lack of a fresh injection from the under 19 side. I strongly believe they did very well and half that squad deserved a chance to play a game or two just before or after the world cup. ZC feel may have missed a great chance in holding on to some precious talent for a few years by getting them exposed to First Class or List A cricket. A fifth franchise would allow greater distribution of players and greater opporunities for the under 19 boys. Imposing a quota of at least 2 players under the age of 21/23 would allow a steady flow of young players into the system to help their development but i guess its totally lost.

I agree, I think all the teams should be required to include at least one player under the age of 20.gargamel wrote:The need for a fifth franchise or at least an academy side in the First Class system has become more evident by the lack of a fresh injection from the under 19 side. I totally agree. Re-establish the Rocks. Also gets FC cricket back into the south of the country. Not so sure about the quotas though. Select on strength, and the cream will rise to the top anyway.gargamel wrote:The need for a fifth franchise or at least an academy side in the First Class system has become more evident by the lack of a fresh injection from the under 19 side. Quotas would need to be imposed there is seniority system that reigns in most Franchises that sees a lot of the washed up Franchise players being kept around the system by virtue as being at the franchise for so many years. The worst case is at the Mountaineers who house most of the Bullies thus stiffling talents like Kunje and Kamhunukwmwe from establishing themselves while letting hasbeens like Kaia, Mutizwa and Maruma linger and with the return oh Johnson Marumisa next season things could be very interesting.

I don't understand why Musoko isn't playing for the Mountaineers. He has only played two list A games, and one Logan Cup match this season. He took five wickets in the first match.gargamel wrote:Quotas would need to be imposed there is seniority system that reigns in most Franchises that sees a lot of the washed up Franchise players being kept around the system by virtue as being at the franchise for so many years. Indeed, Pettini must be a bit miffed if he's paid his own air fare, mind you, he did fall to the king of Zim spin bowling, none other than Bothwell Chapungulitherantotoro wrote:Chapungu removes Pettini for a duck.![]()

Kaia is 24. Maruma one of the better players in the A-team. Mutizwa is one of the most successful Logan Cup players ever. Musoko has his path blocked by 2 A-team bowlers in Nyauchi and Mupunga, and Shingi, again one of the most successful Logan Cup players ever. Tough ask to force his way in. Fair to assume that his performance in training is insufficient to convince the coach that he should jump the queue. Unfortunate, but with only 4 FC teams, who only play a measly 6 matches each, there is not a lot of opportunity.
