The Guardian has the best sports writers in English, the world over. Best writers in any discipline in fact. Other highbrow newspapers like The Economist also excellent.
Funnily enough, Barney Ronay wouldn't feature in my personal best writers. Currently there's David Hopps, a remarkable exception in the otherwise saccharine cricinfo, before him the late Peter Roebuck but best and most wonderful of all a South African, Tom Eaton. Aaaah..., Tom. http://mg.co.za/article/2005-04-29-laras-theme
some seriously distasteful comments here which can be taken the wrong wrong way. let's not seperate each other on the basis of colour here and bring other people down. I though the whole point of this forum was supposed to be for us to figure out a way forward and restore the sport we love. we don't have to agree with each other but we also do t have to go for each other's necks.

I agree. And guess where David Hopps worked before joining cricinfo? Sadly the guardian is under financial pressure, much like every other quality newspaper, and it's been starting to tell in the cricket department as well. And Barney Ronay definitely isn't the greatest writer they have.

It just highlights irreconcilable differences and age old prejudices from both sides. It's not a problem solving forum at all. It's a place to exchange information and views without fear of reprisal on account of anonymity because if your opinions differ from that of the powers-that-be and their underlings and sycophants it can spell real trouble. Gargamel purports to be on the side of cricket, but as soon as it's not going exactly his way the race card is pulled. Why do you think there's no whites left in cricket? We have no defence against it and it's boring and tiring. Makoni, Chingoka and their crew can be vaguely excused for some of their prejudice and they've returned the favour a thousand fold and it continues without respite, but Gargamel is a born-free, he's inherited his prejudice because it's politically expedient and legal and yet he can't understand why he's not loved. Anyway I've said my piece and it's also left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm also taking a break from this forum, it's really depressing.
Such a different setup in Zimbabwe than Australia.
Here the grounds are owned and maintained by the local municipal councils. No clubs have a home ground, except some are adopted as such and scheduled at such for regional requirements.
Cricinfo profile of the 'James Bond' of cricket:
FULL NAME: Angus James Mackay
BORN: 13 June 1967, Harare
KNOWN AS: Gus Mackay
That's a long shot and not really acceptable. Why don't you find him on social media and contact him directly? I don't think he currently has much interest in cricket and may well be in the UK
And yeah I'm very bitter. People fought long and hard to put and keep cricket on the map here and it's been systematically destroyed and now it's not recoverable. You will see, two more years max.
Hate speech is what you see from Hhm and ZcfOutkast. Although Gargamel's outburst doesn't quite qualify it's a lament that's factually incorrect and is his flawed perception of what transpired.
