Franchise Stats

Post by aydee »

I've compiled a few stats from Franchise era domestic cricket. For interest, I thought I'd combine the 3 tournaments, as these sort of figures aren't obvious from cricinfo profiles, etc. Below are the top 10 for each franchise in runs, wickets and bat/bowl average. Hopefully this should raise some interesting stuff. If anyone has any questions about individual players, or performances in different formats, etc, I should be able to answer them. Interesting.. Please can you compile a list for the last season?? Minimum for batting should be 2 games and for bowling 10 wickets.. I think from this we can get a rough idea of the best performers for this last Logan Cup.. Batting(runs and average) and Bowling(wickets, average, economy and strike rate).

These are the Best Performers each Franchise.. For Batting the qualification is Runs and or 2 games and Average.. For Bowlers I chose wickets per match (Wickets÷Matches), Strike rate, economy and Average with the qualification being 10 wickets..
BATTING: MOST RUNS- BEST AVERAGE- SPECIAL MENTION(If required)
Rhinos
Young Maruma 398@36.18
Musakanda 351@39
Chapungu 328@27.33
Special mention: PJ 201@67

Eagles
Chakabva 381@42.33
N Waller 242@40.33
Maunze 241@34.42

Goats
Vusi 351@89.25
Mutizwa 313@34.77
Shingi 242@26
Special mention: I Kaia Scored a century and averaged 36.8

Tuskers
Ervine 477@95.4!!!!
N Mpofu 378@37.8
Dabengwa344@38.22

BOWLING: Wickets per Match- Average- Economy- Strike Rate
Rhinos
Mumba. 4.6-- -- 13.65-- -- 2.36-- -- 34.5
Chisoro 4.0-- -- 24.25-- -- 3.00-- -- 48.5
Chinouya 2.4-- -- 23.50-- -- 2.44-- -- 57.5
Special mention U19 Cpt Muvuta 8 wickets in one game. Madziva 7 wkts in 1 game.

Eagles
Aliseni 5.5-- -- 11.36-- -- 2.81-- -- 24.1
Munyaradzi 4.8-- -- 15.45-- -- 3.45-- -- 26.8
Muzarabani 4.3-- -- 21.07-- -- 3.08-- -- 41.0

Goats
Tiripano 5.3-- --14.12-- -- 2.51-- -- 33.6
Wellington 5.0-- --15.00-- -- 2.62-- -- 34.3
Shingi 4.2-- -- 22.28-- --3.30-- -- 40.4
Special mention: Mufudza took 9wkt in 2 games. Musoko took 5wkt in 1 game

Tuskers
T Mpariwa 4.5-- -- 20.94-- -- 3.33-- -- 37.6
Nyumbu 4.0-- -- 26.20-- -- 3.77-- -- 41.6
C. Mpofu 3.7-- -- 23.81-- -- 3.54-- -- 40.2
Special mention: C Tshuma took 7 wkt in 1 game. D Bell took 5 wickets in 1 game.

So from these stats we can see that Ervine (Most runs and Best Average) and Vusi are the best batsmen by FAR followed by PJ and Regis. Special mentions to Musakanda and N Waller.
We can also see that Aliseni (surprisingly, Best Wickets per match, Average and Strike rate) and Tiripano are the top bowlers and they are closely followed by Mumba and Munyaradzi.

STATISTICS DO NOT LIE!!

The stand-out stat from a franchise perspective is the stability and longevity of the Mountaineers' bowling attack with Shingi, Tiripano and Mushangwe at the top of the wicket-takers list, and Chatara not far behind. Not much chopping and changing or seeking of greener pastures in Mutare, whatever the administration. It seems a bit odd at first because the team is often thought of as a mere subsidiary of Harare, but Tiripano and Chatara are local boys, and the Masakadzas have played there forever.

Good points. I think it also references the fact that those 3 guys have never held down regular slots in the national team, and have therefore been available a lot.

Stats are too raw and go back too far. You're only as good as your last season.

Very mediocre county cricketer of South African origin. Played one season for the Eagles.

That is why I posted last season's stats.. Raza had a horrible season but still somehow found himself in the squad ahead of many players..

2 things stood out to me .....

Shingi 296 first class wickets that's incredible considering he would only play 8 matches max a year .....

Ed Rainsford 156 wickets @ 21 and never played a test match .......
