Re: Provincial Cricket
The objective of the competition is two sided. One objective is to spread the game and unearth players in the far corner provinces. The other is to satisfy political promises made to key associate provinces. The goal is to have the competition grow into the old Franchise B competition under the franchise league similar to the South African provincial system. The plan is to have it split into northern and southern regions to save travel and accommodation costs with the introduction of Harare, Bulawayo Metropolitan Associations in a year or two. The next competiion is the much awaited Zimbabwe Premier League which is a club competition which will be larger and longer with 7 rounds.

Re: Provincial Cricket
All i got after the ZC indaba on Saturday was that Centrals beat Western Tigers by 10 runs. no news on who scored runs or took wickets.
Power Turbines - Won by 6 wickets in a low scoring game with Southern Zebras by chasing down 84 runs.

Anyone seen the scores this week?
Alester Maregwede 200 odd not out of 90 odd balls!
I think it is fair to say that Matabeleland North and South are not untapped mines of talent...
Looks like the other group is somewhat stronger with Mash East, West and Central.

Re: Provincial Cricket
So the final of this will see Southern Rocks take on Mash Central. Centrals had a very straightforward semi, with Bright Njanji scoring a double hundred and taking 5 wickets.
Richard Muzhange played for Mash West in their semi against the Rocks.

Probably would have expected one of the Mash sides to win this heading into the tournament, so well done to the Rocks!gargamel wrote:Masvingos Southern Rocks beat Mashonaland Central by 42 runs
Does anyone know anything about the Rocks opening bowler, who averaged just under 4 with the ball this tournament? A prospect, or are those figures just a reflection of the standard of this competition?

Re: Provincial Cricket
I would not read too much into some of the stats from these games. The concern at the moment is development of cricket in Mat South and North it looks realy poor.

Re: Provincial Cricket
Certainly does. Their results in this would suggest that there basically isn't any cricket of any sort of standard whatsoever, and that isn't really acceptable.gargamel wrote: The concern at the moment is development of cricket in Mat South and North it looks realy poor.
Re: Provincial Cricket
if 15 year old Madhevere can take 3 wickets and score a 50 it means he is either extremely talented or the quality is not up to standard. either way its a step in the right direction in my opinion. it gives the younger players some goals..after this league they can then move onto the metropolitab leagues and then the UK club leagues eventually finding their way into the main first class setup.
