[Discussion]: Zimbabwe Current Players Pool

Post by Detective RDS »

Pretty excited about the kick start of Zimbabwean international cricket season against India.

Just to spice up things & activities of the forum, I have come up with an idea. I have created this thread to discuss about

- Zimbabwe current players pool (domestic & international). Meaning here we can talk about who are the up and coming players, who are the players to watch out for.
- We can talk about what we have got in batting, all rounders, pacers, spinners, wicket keepers in domestic cricket.
- We can talk about the experience & youth in domestic cricket.
- We can have an insight on the depth & strength of the domestic structure.
- We can also talk about cricket brains in domestic cricket who can add value to the national side. Like domestic cricket captains & their tactics, coaches etc.
- We can talk about the strategical aspect & roles of current Zimbabwean national team coaches.
- Another thing, players quitting (more) & coming back (less) is so common in Zimbabwean cricket and the news about them is so scattered. Often players get disappeared from the domestic scene. So, here we can keep each others updated about who has quit or who is going to come back.

Feel free to engage in discussion here. Hope you guys like the idea. Hope this will be a good source for a Zimbabwean cricket fan to know about the happenings of Zimbabwean cricket by going through this thread.

Also feel free to suggest any more topic on which we can have a constructive discussion.

OK, let me start.

From what I have read Carl Mumba & Cuthbert Musoko are two of the young upcoming pacers. They have good stats.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/co ... 72775.html
http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/co ... 71705.html

Pacer Kyle Bowie recently made his debut so is legspinner Deven Bell for Matabeleland Tuskers.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/co ... 95962.html
http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/co ... 72769.html

Are all the guys mentioned available or will stick around ?

Cuthbert Musoko has lost all his pace. Not the same bowler he was.

Carl Mumba needs more years in domestic cricket as he would get killed in Internationals as he isnt accurate enough.

Kyle Bowie would be one to invest in however I dont know if he is hanging around.

Deven Bell is just honestly an average cricketer.

I totally agree with Flakeman on how average Cuthbert Musoko has been this past season. He will need to seriously need to work hard.

I finally got to see Bowie bowl and wow was impressed with his control and swing but i think he lacks pace but someone that ZC must keep interested apart from the long flowing hair.

Brandon "Dipaz" Diplock im a big fan of this boy really talented and has a great cricket brain and one of the two pure allrounders who need more game time. Seriously think a chat with Wayne James or Mr Brown should see him make some serious noise. Far better than Chigs and Jongwe
Jimmy
Tino Mafusire Partially Biased but the burly lad is probably the best version of Jimmay Anderson great bowler and good batsman who is known to be within the top 10 cleanest hitters of a ball. Needs to work on his fielding , mentally intimidated outside his club team and fails to shine iat Eagles sessions but in the top 5 bowlers in Mashonaland. Too nice and needs to start being a bit of an ass to add to his bowling and batting skills.

Brighton Zhawi One of the few pure left arm bowlers can be classified as medium fast , great cricket mind and an exceptional fielder, needs to bulkd up to get gass. Mentally tough and silebntly ruthless , destroyed Mountaineers with a career best 7 for 23 this season. Decent lower order bat

Gerald Aliseni Quickest bowler in Zimbabwe behind Bidi and a true hard worker. Has the ability to swing the ball both ways, .Great mental strenght and a decent fielder. Has worked hard with Makaya Ntini to shed some weight gone from 120Kgs to 104 in the past two months.Just needs a full franchise season and he should be on the plain to the next world cup.

Blessing Muzarabani Stretch tallest bowler ive seen deadly on bouncing wicket, has decent raw pace. Needs to make a break through into the provincial setup one who would benefit from being in a cricket academy. Very likeable character and great attitude to the game . Needs to bulk up on a good solid diet one who should be ready in 2 years with at least 2 seasons of FC cricket.

Callum Price Probably one of the best outside FC cricket great swing bowler, tough hard cricketer ,May need to shed some weight but if i wanted a match wining bowler I would not even harrass him to shed the weight. A pure number 11.

Aliseni is a myth surely. Have heard for years how fast he is, if he were that fast he would be in the team and tearing up domestic cricket.

He has the gas . He surprisingly prefers to play four day cricket . But as ZPL comes around we can really see how quick he is. Fitness and a life outside cricket has made his apperances in domestic cricket scarces. He however played in two wins for the Eagles and stole a game in Bulawayo

From ZCF I read Callum Price quit in 2013, he is still 24 though. Before that played FC matches for Mountaineers.

Mashonaland Eagles pacer Tafadzwa Muzarawetu has some good bowling stats. (http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/ ... 91094.html)

Pacer Charlton Tshuma debuted for Matabeleland Tuskers, picked up a 4 for & a 3 for. (http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/co ... 59823.html)

Mashonaland Eagles slow left arm spinner Herbert Chikomba has decent stats. (http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/co ... 71702.html)

Midwest Rhinos legspinner & U/19 captain Brandon Mavuta picked up a 6 for in his debut FC match. (http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/co ... 06239.html)

Can someone shed some lights on them ? Are they good prospects ?

Does anyone know is the following page official twitter handle of Matabeleland Tuskers franchise ?
https://twitter.com/tuskerscricketZ

Does the other franchises have any official twitter account ? I've not seen any.

Another thing most importantly, there were reports on the scrapping of franchise system & re-introduction of provincial system. So will the next domestic season be played in the provincial system ?

On the bowling front its good to have Vitori back.. He has been cleared by the ICC and it will be interesting to see how he bowls and his pace with a remodelled action.. Tawanda Bidi is a troubled young man. The lad is rude, arrogant and can't talk to people. He comes from a well-off family. As for Gerald Aliseni, I just joined a gym were he goes to. He's muscle! Like Andre Russell.. I don't know about his commitment to cricket but I like how he carries himself and he's actually a smart young man. I tried having a conversation with him but he doesn't reveal much. Charlton Ndlovhu is lanky and quickish.. He's like a young Chris Mpofu.. Tatenda Mupunga is decent. A 125-132km/h bowler but can swing it both ways and is most probably the most accurate bowler in Zim.. Carl Mumba is good. I can say he's the best and the quickest of all the bowlers I've seen.. He's quick and has a knack of picking up wickets.. Definitely a longer format bowler.. Mike Chinouya is the fittest bowler but seems to have lost some zip. Nyasha Nyasha is quick but he chucks.. Chimhamhiwa has lost pace and penetration so has Musoko.. Shingi Masakadza has been working hard and should do well.
