Its was good to see a mature innings from Elton looking for the ones and twos. The team had slamped to 145/5 at one point before Butterworth(63) came to the grease and these were not looking good at all. The only other notable score was from G. Lamb who made 25. Utseya was really turning on the screws 0-27 off his 21 overs. Lets hope they can push for 350-400. The Mountaineers really have a packed batting side Masakadza, Matsikinyere, Taibu, Utseya. Eagles really have their work cut out.
CHRISTOPHER MPOFU: 'The problem was fear of failure. I used to think that when I played, if I didn't do well in one game, I would lose my place for the next one but now I've let go of that'

SCORE UPDATE

Mashonaland Eagles first innings 317 (Chigumbura 90, Butterworth 63, Lamb 25.
S Masakadza 3/70)
Mountaineers first innings 40/1 (Mawayo 10)

http://www.test.zimcricket.org/?inc=art_2-0&link=607
Wickets were tumbling at Harare sports Club, Mountaineers brought out their guns to battle and took the early wickets of Elton Chigumbura who was not able to add to his overnight score of 90 when he was out at the first bal of the morning.Raymond Price and Trevor Garwe made an effort to push the total to 317 with all wickets taken. Shingi Masakadza was the peak of the bowlers with 3 wickets for 70. Mountaineers did not really get off on the right as Tinotenda Mawoyo was caught LBW by Elton Chigumura at 10 runs just before lunch break.

Mountaineers are left with an archivable task of catching the total set as long as they can hold on to wickets and build partnerships, Eagles however have to maintain constant pressure and not give away anything on the field.

Day 2 ZC media release info update from maehara

"Meanwhile in the Eagles v Mountaineers game, Mountaineers had full control of the day. Captain Hamilton Masakadza had reached an unbeaten 111 by end of day. Mountaineers took early wickets in the early hours of the day crippling Eagles who were forced on the field earlier than expected and further went on to create strong partnerships. Other top scorers were wicket keeper Tatenda Taibu who scored 63 off 73 balls as Stuart Matsikenyeri who ended the day in partnership with Hamilton Masakadza at 39. Eagles are hoping for early morning brilliance from their strike bowlers Elton Chigumbura and Trevor Garwe if they have hopes of not trailing by a huge margin".

ZC match report for Day Three:
Meanwhile in Harare, Mountaineers continue the rise up to the summit by
declaring on 493 for 7 thanks to a resilient 188 from their captain Hamilton
Masakadza which made his score the highest of the Logan Cup so far . Mixing
attack and defense magnificently, Masakadza's innings included 27 fours and
came off 402 deliveries. His effort was well supported by Stewart
Matsikanyeri whose contribution of 79 added 163 for the fourth wicket .
There were two wickets for Eagles captain Elton Chigumbura and Raymond
Price but despite their efforts this match will more than likely end in tame
draw if Eagles bat through the rest of day four, which they are capable of
doing.

The day will start with the Eagles still trailing the Mountaineers by 138
runs with Samuel Mwakaeni and Alois Tichana
..and yes, the ZC email cuts off in mid-sentence just like that.
