@sixes i think a lot more investigation , game viewing and inquiry would chnage your views. I would like to provide a few examples of what the ZPL has done
1. Promotion and grooming of Under 19 kids and life line to kids who have graduated from Under 19. We have a guy like Blessed Muzite who is now 20 who replaced Alister Maregwede and scored a hundred against Mupariwa and Mpofu that must count for something two international and Franchise players. Then you have two 15 year olds who in Shumba and Madhevere very humble kids and down to earth who have justified their inclusion in a very strong Rainbow that has seen Mupunga and Zhawi excluded. You get another 15 year old in Midlands expose 2 national team allrounders in Chisoro and Jongwe it thus shows the gap is not far.
2. Old Dogs show they have some bite. Love or hate old heads like Magwenzi and Nyumbu they are good enough and are better than the ametures by a mile thus raising the standard and passing on knowledge for improvement to the younger kids. The old guys should simply be bullies and show and expose weaknesses in our development structures if they are not challenged.
3. The case to give Franchise fringe players a go. We have kids like Njanji,Munyede Muppurura , Khamukamwe, Mafusire who have been in and around franchise setups but not being given the chance to play due to National or contracted players availability have shown that they deserve a serious consideration for the upcoming season
4. The rubbish is now exposed. The true horrible rubbish which includes your much over hyped and really shit players like Kamungozi,Musoko. Ngarava Thabo Mboyi , guys who should not be near a provincial side.
5. Proof that our guys dont play club cricketThe fact that dirty Joe , Garwe, Chibaba, Raza get my number and call to want to play club cricket as their contracts are also linked to ZPL and club cricket just proves a point that we have a lazy bunch of guys who would prefer to play golf than get some good match practice in games that count not simply centre wicket.
6. Reality must set in so deal with it. Calum Price team Katundu kings did not qualify to play in the ZPL and defend their claim as National Champions , Diplock, Mavhuta, Masunda , power Maruma, are all in the UK . Mavhuta has helped his team to the T20 league so kudos. Zimwa is coaching in SA better job security , Matigimu is lost as he is now studying , Murray dont know where he is but would be exposed.

Great stuff gargamel. Keep the news, etc coming.
Re: [Series Thread] Zimbabwe Premier League
Which players were in Katundu Kings?
Are they the remnants of that decent Country Club side?
The backbone of that original side were Taylor and Price and young Welch, Burl, Waller and Trenchard, if I recall.

Re: [Series Thread] Zimbabwe Premier League
I think this is a great initiative if u ask me. I think it will definitely unearth some talents who are not being given an opportunity as first class level as well as show us who doesn't deserve to be playing first class cricket. any form of cricket activity can't be bad.the like of 15 year old Madhevere is picking up experience and I'm sure by the time he is 17 he will light up the next world cup.
On another note is Matigimu completely lost? thought he was still in high school in South Africa.not too sure about his situation. a source told me earlier he might try crack the South African system and he might have a decent chance considering they are implementing quotas and how badly their own u19s performed

gargamel wrote:I seriously beg to differ on your opinions on the ZPL. I think its going on quite well and the competition is quite competitive. You need to be in it to see the benefit that it has on th under 19s and guys obscured by the system limiting the opportunities of the other players from Franchise cricket. Who knew there was a 15 year old who would take 5 wickets against a side made up of season provincial players. who would say that Chatara would be flayed ALL over the park by a guy who is one of the best allrounders in Zimbabwe but has not played FC cricket. this is the platform.
The ZPL is based on having the best club teams within each province playing each other. Takashinga has 2 teams based on the fact that they finished 2nd and 3rd in the Vigne cup behind Rainbow. The qualification process helps in the first refinement stage of teams and players before the FC season thus raising the quality of the competition as these are the best clubs in Zimbabwe not randomly selected you have to qualify through 2 rounds if not 3 in smaller province. May i remind everyone that this is similar if not the same as the old National League which was a successful supplement to the old Provincial cricket and a basis for national and provincial selection.
We have guys here advocating to have guys such as Ngarava( was in england and fired by his club proving he is rubbish the same goes for Musoko) Moor (with national team) Burl (on crutches) to play but the fact is if they are not with a winning club they have to be invited and being a prick or being a flakey on committing to club cricket wont see you play or b invited to join a qualified team. The clubs or ZC cannot impose national team players on a team. Moor is in the Muzevezev Tigers team so he should play after the newzealnd series is done where we should see the national team players be active.
The so called covering over the cracks is a wrong perception. ZC has taken the advice to restructure grass roots and this is one of the starting points as advised by Googly who is not a dim wit a great cricket admin mind who i look for advice. So give it a chance we are bloody negative bunch here when someone tries somthing all the expert critics come out with negativ energy lets be positive for a change,
The best and worst thing about you is you are always so wildly optomistic. You see the best and the talent in cricketers that undfortunately never seem to pan out.

Re: [Series Thread] Zimbabwe Premier League
exactly my point @ zimdoggy, glad some1 understood
as much as it may be of good cause it is not sensible
neither is it what we expect. Blessed muzite & lawrence
magwenzi could not even make zim u19 in case you
forgot so saying they are good & murray will be exposed
as too exaggerated. No doubt madhevere & shumba are
good the talent is there fo all to see but they are not
the best youngsters in the country " was my point" they
play for churchill boys high same team with mavhuta,
ngarava, nemaungwe etc & were "exposed" as you say
against youngsters their age.. the u17 tourney is coming
up just watch & you will be suprised what other kids
their ages can do eg a kid by the name michael booth
When you say it shows these kids & guys in franchise
the "gap is not far" what you actually mean is our
franchise guys are that useless to compared & outplayed
by 15 year olds not 1 not even 2 ...smh .Kamunhukamwe
was a disgrace too for zimu19 ,maruma was not even
rated @ churchill just a kid who had equipment whilst
others coulnt afford. All im saying is we are not giving
game time to the best we have & the standards keep
falling as i said pit takashinga or rainbow against
johns, facon, churchill, peterhouse & the results will
bring you back to reality
