Musakanda Speaks On Steady Rise

Cricketer Tarisai Musakanda says sticking to basics has helped him to progress well in his career and settle well in Zimbabwe A squad.

The 21-year-old former Under 19 player is being touted as one of the future bright prospects of Zimbabwean cricket and he has backed his billing with good knocks for the Zimbabwe A, Zimbabwe Developmental XI and for his franchise the Mid West Rhinos.

Musakanda has been able to command starting XI place in the Zimbabwe A squad since last year on tours against Afghanistan A and Pakistan A.

“I have come a long way,” Musakanda told SportsZone.

“There comes a time when everything starts but now I have realised how to work on the smallest of things, the smallest of information; that’s very important.”

In the first One Day game against Pakistan A on Monday, Musakanda top scored for Zimbabwe A but there was no other significant contributions to aid his efforts to set a competitive total.

“ Throughout games that I have played I have learnt to keep it simple, just doing things that are there don’t think ahead, don’t think behind. That way I think I am going to keep myself in the squad and keeping myself moving forward,” he said.
Looks like a confident young guy focusing on the right things...

Here is one youngster who is letting his game speak of itself. Definitely one ZC need to invest in. Good thing is he won't be off trying to qualify for Ireland or West Indies anytime soon.

he has definitely impressed.. I hope he is given a chance to grow and perfect his game on the sidelines with no pressure before he is thrown into the deep end. hopefully ZC pulls through with this long domestic season. 2 more full seasons and more A games will lead him on the right track.

40s and 50s at a 50ish strike rate against Pakistan's A team attack is not spectacular. Ideally you want a guy to score 100s or 70s, 80s with a 75+ strike rate on a 330 run pitch. That being said, he has outdone the likes of Vusi, Waller (longer version and T20 player anyways), Chakabva, and Mutumbami.

But his FC average of 25 is worrying regardless of how young he is. Welch was hitting 50s at Logan Cup level at age 16.

I met him at the Greater Noida stadium during the series against Afg A. I was impressed by his attitude and work ethics. A humble, down to earth guy with passion to perform. All the best Tarry!
