SL Tests, WI tri series confirmed

Post by Kriterion_BD »

Just saw it on cricinfo. This is good news...with the NZ and India series, it means ZC will have had a full home season for 2 years running now. Regardless of where the money is going, at least there is cricket which is the reason that Taylor left. Perhaps BT might come back if ZC can guarantee 5-6 Tests per year (only need one overseas tour per 12 months to get that many).

Taylor, Ervine, Williams would give ZIM a very strong backbone in both formats of the game. Just need Mumba and those U-19 quicks to come through and you will have more solutions than questions in the XI at long last.

ZIM should lay out greentops for the SL test at HSC and see what happens. Watch out for Mendis, that guy is class...and Chandimal will hit at least one match winning knock but might fail in the other 3 innings. Matthews is hit or miss right now. The chinaman bowler Sandakan has immense potential as well. Phenomenal talent.

Will be a fantastic series.

We could match up okay against SL in Tests. SL are good at home on turning tracks, if we prepare a normal HSC pitch which is more conducive to seam we could negate Herath and co. The SL seamers aren't overly impressive.

So it could come down to a shoot out amongst the batsmen. At the very least we should be aiming to secure at least one draw.

Draws will generate a lot of points in the rankings table. A dead flat track like the NZ series is whats needed. Bring in Mumba and the 140 kph unser 19 pacer because on flat tracks Chinouya and Tiripano will not do. Mawoyo, Williams and Ervine will be the batting core and if Chakabva gets his form back, you have 4 test class batsmen. 4 and half if you include Raza. Give Moor and Waller a go as well. And Id bring Shingi into attack as well.

^In light of the above post, this would be my XI as of now:

Mawoyo
Chibabha
Chakabva/Hamilton
Ervine
Williams
Raza
Moor (+)
Shingi
Cremer (*)
Chatara
Mumba

Thats 3 quicks plus Chibibha's medium pace. 1 spinner plus 2 solid part timers. And you genuinely bat down to #8, 9 if and when Cremer has a good day.

Not bad. Probably not too far from what they will go with too. Hamilton will surely be in. Also, I reckon that Tiripano will be in the mix, although Chinouya's time may be up.

I wonder if some of the old faces will playing the four dayers againat Pak A. Musakanda Nyauchi Mumba have be reasonable so far. They should get a look in.
