The span between the Games has me very concerned.
Yes he retired and came back, yes he broke something but our captain and a number of players are picking games to play and somehow they make the team. We need to hold him to the flames and get him to play more. He more so as a leggy who need overs. Look after 13 Test Matches only 26 wickets at an average above 57. It translates to a 1 wicket an innings or 2 wickets a match is not good enough. The reality set in for me when a comparison was made here that Martin Guptil and the average Mitch Santner out bowled a guy who is a supposed specialist and with home knowledge its a sign that he has no clue about his own game , how to prepare to play on local tracks and how to win us games. He was overhyped from the start being plucked out of class and somehow it may seem that he is the next best thing after a castle lager in the players change room.Im a betting man come this SRI Lanka tour cremer will not have more than 10 wickets over the two tests.
We have accepted mediocre for too long and id rather have our growing army of Left armers or even Mavuta in the squad over Dirty Joe at the moment. There is no excuse that he and the others cant at least play 4 FC games in the Logan Cup a season and play some Club games to sharpen their skills hell even go to England and play some club cricket during the off season. We simply don't play enough cricket in this country to complain of fatigue or work overload.

Cremer is the best bowler in Zim. He is miles better than Nyumbu, Mushangwe or any other spinners in the country. I agree he hasn't done well in last few games, but you can just go and check his stats in FC. ZC won't even hesitate to keep him in the team solely as a batsman. Our batsmen have played well in this 4 dayers, but our fast bowling is still struggling. Tiripano and Chinoyo couldn't do much, so it is highly possible that Mpofu will make a test comeback based on his today's performance. It would be interesting to see how our youngsters Mumba, Nyauchi and Ncube would do in the second game.

Cremer has been a dismal failure, he is more successful as a batsman than a bowler at this stage.

Genetleman .We are all reasonably knowledgeable on the Game abut fact is fact. Cremer at test level has been terrible. The first class stats are great and reflected the hard work he put in. But conisder this he last played 4 day Logan cup in Feb 2013 before going on holiday to the West Indies where he was exposed. To say Cremer is the best bowler Zimbabwe has is not true.he is the best leggy that the system has permitted us to see and the key has been that he has been availble but he needs to be put on notice. i now wish we could bring in our plumber adam huckle to help his progress. he has just stunted with no improvement or growth

I think our batsmen deserves more of the blame for failing against the likes of Guptill and Santner.gargamel wrote:The span between the Games has me very concerned.

These need not become distractions in the Cremer debate. Cremer's performances so far in the longest format (tests) have been anything but noteworthy. In my view, primarily due to his lack of pace when playing on slower wickets - the amount of turn and drift are found out by the time the ball reaches the batsmen, so they can play him with ease. So, yesterday's performance must be encouraging given that it was at Queens. Let us see how he goes against the Lankans. That could be make or break for his long format ambitions. But the contenders for his place are not getting enough opportunities to prove their worth. If Cremer is not playing enough cricket in the off season even when it is possible, that definitely is criminal.jimbo wrote:The cremer bashers are merely prosper utseya apologists. Much of a bowler's success depends on who's bowling at the other end. If the other bowler is not tight it's a lot easier to play the leggie with a clear mind as there's no pressure to score, Warne's success over the years was partly due to the miserly McGrath. Ours is the age old problem of not playing enough games. I have no idea how Raza gets so many overs, he's very ordinary. You can't compare Guptil with Cremer because they're bowling against different batsmen. I haven't seen Cremer bowl in a while, he needs a slider in his armoury, if he doesn't have one already.
Re: Zim A v Pak A: 4 Dayers Series Thread
Mavuta is the best leggie in Zim. He will play next season.. The kid varies his pace, has a decent wrong one and a good slider.. Cremer is the best out of a half decent lot. Nyumbu hasn't put his hand up recently and you can say the same about Mushangwe.. Devon Bell won't go anywhere (He bowls them at 70-75km/h) unless he can bowl a little quicker.. On the longer format seamers, ZC need to invest in Musoko, Mumba, Nyauchi and Aliseni and maybe keep Mpofu to guide them..Bowling Tiripano, Chinouya and Masvaure showed all of us how out of his depth Ntini is..
