Chari's not in Maruma territory yet, but he's one guy who we persisted with for way too long given his single digit average. Unfortunately At some point you have to make a call and say this guy isn't going to make it.

lol his average is embarrassing on the international scene. but im just saying selecting him and expecting him to impress each time will put him under pressure. if he is worth selecting then in his early days maybe play him in the middle order. otherwise dont select him at all. he will be dropped for regis of course unless he scores a ton in the second innings. 2nd test XI (given another poor Chari display)brmtaylor.com admin wrote:Chari's not in Maruma territory yet, but he's one guy who we persisted with for way too long given his single digit average. Chari is only 24 so he can turn it around I suppose. If the braintrust truly believe he's got what it takes, perhaps he should get an extended run in the ODI team. As you say, it's hard given the limited number of Tests we play for him to just hit the ground running (PJ Moor did though)... If he's able to play some big innings in ODI's, maybe then give him another crack at Tests.
I just can't see how you can select him any more before Raza (who has made big ODI hundreds) and Chakabva (who has Test century), who both have healthy Test averages by Zim standards.

One of the many aspects where ZC is failing is to provide the adequate support and training for talented or promising individuals to move up a level. We have so little talent at our disposal that we can't afford to neglect this. Chari has the talent, but it may never blossom without the adequate framework. ANother example of ZC's failure to provide adequate coaching or excellence programs is Mutumbami - a few seasons ago, as a youngster, he was piling on runs (highest scorer in the Logan cup, if I remember correctly) and almost singlehandedly propping up the whole Southern Rocks lineup. He's now almost 27 and I wonder if that ship has sailed...brmtaylor.com admin wrote:Chari is only 24 so he can turn it around I suppose...
Peterhouse U14C 4th change bowler and no. 10 batsman (but only because Aaron didn't have a bat).

We need 2 genuine fast men in our team.. We haven't had a genuine fast bowler since Arnoldus Mauritius "Andy" Blignaut.. I remember in 2003 in the drawn Test against West Indies Blig was sending them down at between 146-152 clicks and he was a mencace all series.. Price was taking wickets for fun and Streak was doing his thing.. Someone needs to tell young Mumba to bowl fast and not try bowl line and length..

Tinashe and Vitori taking the new ball with Chatara first change would be our best bowling lineup but Tinashe is too fat to play atm? Chatara not fit enough? and Vitori no confident enough?
I remember watching us win the 13' test against Pakistan I thought this bowling lineup would serve us well for the next 5 years, sadly the 3 of them haven't played together since ......

Chari seems to always score against the A sides, which is what the selectors would ask of him. The issue is he can't replicate it against the International sides which is a shame because he looks a decent player ....
Maybe he needs more time against A sides ?
Can anyone explain why Chamu got dropped after making 60 odd against NZ ??

Chari's FC form has been improving, his average has gone up from 19 to 22 this year which is heading in the right direction. I think he may have a future but shouldn't be mucked around with. Unless he makes a half century or a very gritty 200 ball 45 in the next innings he should be dropped for an extended period until he is actually dominating Logan Cup rather than just having a 60 here and the odd century amidst a plethora of single digit outs.

seems like we lost Vitori because he is playing club cricket in South Africa as ZC didn't give him a contract. Can't blame him for feeding his family. it was a tough one really looking at the names who got contracts and the fact that he is getting used to his new action but it shows that we have to fix the problem of the domestic contracts and make sure players can survive on them. what ever happened to those high performance contracts?
As for Chari I have never been a fan but I think he should keep getting chances. Not everybody starts with a bang. I'm sure we all remember Rilee Rossouw getting 2 ducks in a row in Harare but he was still given chances by the Proteas because they saw something in him.
