Essentially, Maruma is a waste of space in the XI then.
The guy has an average of 10.89 across 34 international innings across formats. That includes 5 not outs! Waller, Matsikenyeri and co. look like Bradman in front of him.
I think the most important lesson we have learnt so far this year is that no other spinners in our system offer much more than Williams and Raza besides maybe Chisoro who isn't going to get picked anyway. This to me is actually a blessing in disguise because we can play more seamers or an extra batsman.
2nd big lesson is that Chatara and Jarvis are part of the elite guys. I found it crazy some people suggesting Chatara isn't an MVP when you see whats happening right now compared to 2018 when he got Bangladesh down to 29-4 by himself.

Yeah Chatara & Jarvis are head and shoulders above any other Zimbabwe seamer
I'm convinced Hammy has no idea what he is doing. When he spoke during the Sri Lanka series from the commentary box, he was basically babbling and didn't outline one plan or idea he had. He was also quite defeatist in his attitude when Dirk would question him on certain challenges and things to do going forward.
No one could have looked at this side and thought it would challenge Bangladesh in any way in Bangladesh, and been happy to send them across. It just sends lamb to the slaughter. There is a lack of tooth in the attack, and the batting relies heavily on 3 or 4 guys (being generous).
Bangladesh are doing this easy. They are not being made to work for their runs either. They are going at a very good rate and ticking the scoreboard over with ease. We are already in save mode and they are only 3 down.
I agree with Taps that not having Chatara shows how bare our bowling is. Without him and Jarvis, the bowling is very very weak. This comes down to the system though. There has been no infrastructure in place to develop players, and no system to bring promising players from the youth ranks in to the first team and make them in to International players. Now with Hammy calling the shots, we will get the same as we used to get from him as a captain. Play it safe and as long as certain individuals are pleased, then who needs progress.
