They wouldn’t have named him in the squad and made a big thing of it if he didn’t already have a passport.

Everything I have heard is that he has one.

Hold up is ICC. They may have taken exception to how he has obtained it. The ICC eligibility rules doesn’t say anything about HOW you need to obtain a passport but perhaps they have realised it’s dodgy and aren’t keen on it.

As we’ve all said here, it would set an alarming precedent both for us and other countries if they accept it.

He isn’t in the Test squad so this obviously isn’t getting resolved any time soon.

If they don’t accept the passport and make him qualify on residency then he’s still a couple of years away.

Jesus wept - there is some absolute shite in this thread, properly uninformed bollocks.

Like you are so wrong. (Nothing new for good old Jonty).

As a FACT - ICC Playing Conditions on eligibility are;
- 3 years consecutive residency
OR
- A passport and full citizenship

The two are separate.

As a fact, I know that Antum is physically in possession of a Zim passport after an intervention by SRC and Ministry of Home Affairs. He was issued this in early July.

There is a paperwork process to register a payer as eligible. ZC had assumed this was just ticking a box and was instant but it turns out they have still not received a green light from the ICC.

If the ICC object then they are in breach of their own playing conditions. Nothing in their playing conditions clarifies what constitutes citizenship.
You’re in the dark. Give more is on the ropes for the underhand dealings that happened to get Antum that passport my guy. Sounds fiction but Givemore could even lose his job. ICC flagged everything. Antum under the ICC regs doesn’t even qualify yet let alone under Zim citizenship act. When iCC reviewed the papers and copies of his passport and looked at Citizenship Act the rubbished everything

Since when did renunciation of other citizenships be a factor?
It was about 30 years ago, but I believe it was changed.
You can get an investor's passport/citizenship as well so that 10 year requirement is no longer relevant either.
My guess is that the issue is he hasn't completed his 3 year residency, which is an ICC requirement.
I don't know what that entails-
Is it 3 years in total or is it 6 months and 1 day per year?
Prepared to bet that's where the issue is.
Zimbabwe Constitution only allows dual citizenship for citizens by birth only. If you attaining citizenship by registration you have to renounce foreign citizenship.
How do you know that, Jonty? Do you have the latest regs? It definitely used to be an issue and I think you're probably right.
They've always been uber conservative about giving out citizenships, that is until the Chinese colonised us. Now they're dishing them out like candies. I know for a white person doing it legit it is extremely difficult to get a dual citizenship here, but we have to play by a different set of rules unless you've got deep pockets.
We are owned by China. If one day Zanu decided they were enough, China would just say tough luck and there's nothing they could do. It's a weird situation, the white folk built this country from nothing and they're despised and the yellow guys are raping it and they're loved. A fancy soccer stadium and a parliament was all it took, if only we'd known.
I wish they'd show an interest in cricket

If the rumours are true and Knackers does now have a Zim passport then it's not an ICC decision other than just rubber stamping some sort of player registration application. SZ is adamant that's the case. Not sure what the delay is?
Maybe he has to, or they have to de-register him from elsewhere? Maybe he had several irons in the fire?

If he hasn't got the passport then it's the residency thing and I'm sure he's not been in-country the requisite number of days. The 3 years yes, but I'm sure he's not paid attention to the 180 plus rule.

Let's see today. Maybe.
You made me laugh 😂😂😂. Not only white people are affected is black Zimbabweans we not safe too. Only the colonisers are safe. Tell how on earth despite the Constitutional Court ruling that everyone a Zim dual citizen when they return home if they return using foreign passport they should have a resident sticker put in their passport, but we made to pay $55 to stay 30 days. I did ask when I got that 30 day visa that if I overstay what are they going to do? 😩😂😩 she had no answer

Guys, I’m here to make a bet @secretzimbo if Antum Naqvi plays for Zimbababwe before the 2027 World Cup I will donate £500 to a charity of your choice.

The whole thing is a mess.

So I am correct - he does have a passport. That is what I am told. He physically has it.

That people are unhappy about it and are now questioning it is not that surprising. If Makoni gets into trouble for it even better  That would be hilarious

I'm quite glad the ICC flagged it because it does set a dangerous precedent if they allow it.

However - you need to read the ICC Eligibility regs. There is nothing in there that clarifies HOW someone can obtain a passport and that 'gifting' a guy a passport being not allowed or something.

The ICC Eligilbity regs say very simply that you must EITHER be resident for three years OR have a passport.

So the ICC doesn't really have a leg to stand on. Their own regs are vague. If he has a passport in his hand then he does qualify to play for Zim, technically.

I would honestly be pretty happy if he doesn't. I'm still against the whole thing. if he does ever play for Zim and have the shirt on then I will support it as I do anyone. But I would honestly rather it never happens.

Does ICC Regs say 3 or 4 years? But then again Zim Laws takes precedence over ICC regs.

To also clarify the misconception that he had to spend 183 days per year in ZIm as residence requirement thats WRONG. ICC reg states that and i quote below:

"By way of a guideline, however, it is likely that, save in exceptional circumstances, as a minimum requirement, on aggregate, at least 10 months actual physical presence in the relevant country in each of the three years will be required to demonstrate that the country is the place where the Player has his/her primary and permanent home"

Anyways lets disagree to agree. But the big thing is how this was handled. When you have uneducated fools at the top its a mess. They could have been smart about it, it was way too early to even think of that. Nothing special about Antum to fast track him. He is an unproven cricketer, bullying mediocre local bowlers (just like Marumani). Kid couldn't even play state cricket in Australia
