Not the first time I've come across such statements. Did I miss something, or can someone substantiate those figures for me?

Vitori proves that the franchise system, though plagued by problems, is absolutely the only way to go. The Rocks in future needn't go to Harare to look for players, a scouting system in rural Masvingo should turn up rough diamonds. Cricket is somehow losing out to rugby and football in schools ... well that's a topic for another day. Anyway, the franchise system, ideally, should offer top players like Sean top salaries of around $6 000 but they have to be top performers. No good offering every Jack and, er, John that kind of contract. And they must be performance based. If $6 000 was affordable in one year (the first year) then surely it must be in subsequent years when sponsors and such are in involved.

Cricket is definately not coming second to rugby or soccer in this country as those two sports are even in worst dire straits than cricket but it is the fact that a starting salary for franchise cricket is virtually the same as the minimum wage for commercial industry in Zim that is worrying. There is no incentive for young players to continue with the game. In fact the odd young player playing club cricket in England is making more in a week than he would in a month playing as a rookie for a franchise.

be great for the bowling as well , would allow us to play cremer and price as well as 2 front line quicks and chigz . also his experience and leadership would help the squad

Agreed.

Time to close the thread.

never said it will, but we're talking about a guy who turned down a chance to help re-build his nations cricket reputation, yet he decides to stay at a county side ? It doesn't cut it with me, thus I've lost a lot of respect for the man...if we were talking about this 2-3 years ago, I'd be the leader of this debate since i'd have wanted him back too...but at the moment..nah
