Just as i called it. Elton proved his class against left-handed batsmen, but Ballance survived that ball, Trego wouldn't let him last beyond the next! Go away and stay at your 2nd division Yorkshire.

Think Waller will flick his wrists for 11 overs with an 11 asking rate? I think not!

Oops called it again! Poor Waller's misery. Oh well he'll do better at 'international' level!

Isn't exactly having a good against the Rocks & Tuskers & co!

Matsi still needs a couple more hundreds in my book. But I wouldn't be unhappy if he took Chamu's place in the T20 side. His form has been poor.

Matsi has been below par in the Logan Cup this season. I think he is still a long way from a test call-up. He has undoubtedly been impressive in this tournament though.

All the more reason why I said: "Appropriate for one of him and Ewing to get a chance in the T20/ODI or Test squad respectively. They've earned it!"

Who can argue against him getting a place in the ODI/T20 XI?

We gonna be playing three formats in New Zealand and he will easily cover for two - the T20 and one dayers. And yes, a test beth for Matsi at this stage is premature.
takleg wrote:I think Muzhange should go to NZ for the T20s just to give him exposure
Time for exposure is long gone, takleg. It appears we can no longer afford that luxury -- elsewhere on this thread is a fear that Zim may not be able to carry a large enough contingent. Its either he's ready to play or he's not ready. Just taking along a player so he can have the feel of a tour when you have no intention of using him, is a bit extravagant. There will be A games where he can actually play.

For those who question Elton, you only need to think back on his Tets performance against Bangladesh, as well as his batting against a strong AusXI bowling unit. He will be in the Test XI.
Don't you find it strange that sincce he made 77 seven years back as a teenager, he's never been able to equal this? This man reached his peak a long time ago. Time to move on.

A few days ago I was watching Thami Tsholekile walk in to bat against Titans whereupon his stats flashed across the screen. In perhaps eight years of List A cricket, the man has two 50s to his name. Two!! I found myself thinking, how on earth did this ordinariness smuggle its way across the consciousness of commentetor's thoughts and lips?

You see my worry, hhm is where Chigumbura has been propounded by commentators and fans alike as a "big hitter". Never has a misnomer been more aptly applied. Whe he middles it it may look okay (even Taibu's looks okay, so thats a mute point), but how many times does he actually middle? Head thrown away, eyes looking a bit wide shut, trying to scoop balls over mid wicket as opposed to hitting through the line , lookig like he's batting against one leg when he's facing the quickies, lost of wild SLOGS for two -- I have no words for Elton Chumbura's poor techinique -- maybe sscricket could help me out here?
FlowerPower wrote:[And Chigs for ODI is essential, and even T20 is useful, but as far as Test is concerned, sorry I don't see him cutting it, especially in the current form, he's currently hardly an allrounder, hence based on batting, Waller, Mutizwa and Ervine are ahead, and as a bowler he has his work cut out to get past the challengers (Meth and co), let alone dislodge the incumbents. For me he is the quintessential limited overs allrounder (when he remembers how to bat), but hardly a test player.
So on the contrary FlowerPower, I don't think he's cutting it any more in the limited overs format. Maybe on a flat deck in a Test match againts plenty of lefthanders, he can be your Trojan horse, like Makhaya Ntini-- otherwise what other use can you have of this man?

Well, whilst I could cope with Matsi getting a T20 chance, he hasn't made a watertight case for the two longer formats, that is for sure.

Despite their wins I was never convinced of the Rocks' ability, and felt they overperformed! Ballance has failed each time up front; as has been the case on a number of occasions this season Taylor's lack of footwork wasn't exploited; Waller has been downright poor; Cremer should have stayed away but at least he has the laughable excuse of his injury! The brainless Benade capping that team's allround pathetic display. No doubt Vusi's great presence would've helped, not to mention shortening that tail, and Rainsford's exclusion worked to their disadvantage - a sure 230 total! Vincent should've stepped aside for a young local batsman a few games back! Incensed me when Horton handed it to them! Probably fitting that they've followed the poor Rocks out of the tournament!

Once againt the superb Matsi misses out on a deserved MoM award. Didn't think four wickets (including Riki&Ballance) made it a big three deserving of the award! More discrimination in my opinion!

Did you guys see Dizzy chase Johno out of the Rocks changing rooms? Way I saw it, the scene which threatened to throw itself out didn't exactly look harmless from a distance! crazy!

Jemisi, have you learned nothing so far? As I've always said, many players have gone into the national team this season on the back of none existant or unconvincing records, so I don't think anybody should downplay his chances for any format, especially the ODIs since he's excelled in domestic List A. After that think of Ncube, he played well in the ODi and bought himself a ticket into the Test team. Waller is going through a bad run since the FC game against the mighty Tuskers. Another bad game in the Rhinos' next FC&List A matches, plus a poor return in the tour game in NZ, then one of the extra batsmen may just get his spot.

I like the Mountaineers' move to bring Chatara in for Eckersley.
