By the way your u23 or Emerging side has been playing recently, and one would argue - based on the personnel - that those are actually your A Team players not Emerging.
The actual name used was BCB High Performance Squad, but yes that has been our "A team" in recent times.

Although that HP side has no player with Test or ODI caps (T20Is are pretty low level IMO)...and A teams usually have some guys with senior caps. The A team would have featured the likes of Anamul Haque, Shahriar Nafees, Naeem Islam...none of whom where in the HP squad.

You linked the U-23 side.

I'm talking about the HP team that recently toured England as a de facto A team. That same team will be playing Ireland A next week. The U-23 team is a team with a different scope, picked for the ACC Emerging teams tournament.

What exactly do Bangladesh see in Rubel, even Chris Mpofu has a better test record than him.

I'm watching the test match as we speak, and I have to agree here. The guy can bowl pretty sharp which is in his favour, but what's the use in having pace if you can't do anything with it.

I'd rather see Taskin, Mushtafique (spelling) open the bowling now and for the next year. These two are the future. They have pace, bounce, can swing and seam the ball and they're tall, a rarity for Bangladesh fast bowlers. Having said that, the wicket keeper who kept in NZ recently was pretty tall.

Stupid isn't it. So unimpressive with the ball. Islam has been shocking and Rubel Hossain hasn't been much better neither.
There just doesn't seem to be any penetration there what so ever.

On a side note, how good does Aiden Markrahm look..? Potential future captain of South Africa.
There's a bit of Neil Mckenizie with the way in which he bats as well, not sure if anybody's picked up on it

Taskin has been disappointing and was dropped. Granted, 8 out of the 10 innings he's bowled in have been flat tracks where the average 1st innings scores have been 550, 500, 400, and 400. But still a bowling average of 100 is unjustifiable even with a number of dropped catches and the pitch conditions taken into context. His problem is that he bowls gun barrel straight without putting the ball in the right areas consistently enough. I would still persist with him for the next couple of series, but that average has to start coming down fairly quickly. He has the potential, but so far its been just that.

The Fizz has been great, and I haven't watched the current match so far, but apparently he was swinging the new ball - which would be a first for him. He can reverse it, but he's not a master of that yet and of course he has his cutters which he tends to shelve until the 3rd or 4th innings.

But yeah I'd still take Taskin ahead of Rubel, and all the BD fans wanted Roy and he's being exposed now. I suspect, apart from Fizz none of these fast bowlers will be selected for the next series, but then again, that would make too much sense.

People will blame Rahim, but I suspect thats only part of the problem. I'm sure its the coach's orders, and he is a known control freak so there is little chance he would let Rahim decide what to do all on his own. The squad and XI selection also hints that no one really has any clue what they are doing.

As far as bowling first goes, I don't think its that terrible of an idea. There was always going to be only the slightest chance of BD winning a Test in SA - no matter which XI they put out on the field. The best situation for us would have been to eke out a draw from the 2 matches and the last pitch was tailor made for a subcontinent side. This wicket doesn't look that green either, but I haven't had a great look yet.

With 3 of our better batsmen out (Tamim, Shakib, Mosaddek) and replaced with relatively worthless guys like Imrul, Sabbir, and Mahmudullah (with his experience attractive 50s are irrelevant, a guy with 30+ caps should be scoring 100s on his day), putting the Saffers in could have two potentially positive benefits. 1) Let the saffers eat 5 sessions out with the bat (looks like they won't need more than 3.5 at this rate) and 2) settle the batsman's nerves, watch and see how the pitch behaves, learn something from the SA approach and bat out a draw. We have done it at home, and the boys should take heart from nearly drawing a Test in Wellington after being put in on a greentop (BD scored 600 declared). Of course its way easier said than done.
