I don't know many people in our league who have had steller summers with the bat. I think COVID has had a major effect in more ways than one

Yeah I felt that bridges may have been built with the Welch's. Nick signed up for domestic last year (albeit got injured) and Matt being picked for this Namibia tour is a good sign.BostonZimbo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 5:38 pmJust wondering if there's no trust in the system. Why is Matthew out with the emerging team? That's also interesting because I've heard that Nick would be interested in playing for Zim. He was in the domestic system last year and I'm pretty sure will be again this yearzimfan1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 4:46 pmI know Nick's dad. Zim is only an option if his gig in the UK fails. They don't trust the admin and feel the whole system is broken.sloandog wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 3:17 pmAs I've said before, I've got it on pretty good authority that Nick Welch has every intention, at some stage in the next 3 years, to make himself available for Zimbabwe. Coupled with (hopefully) Ryan Murray signing with a franchise next year and the emergence of the current crop of youngsters, I don't feel too aggrieved about Bawa in that there's still a lot of time for him to commit to Zim. The clock is ticking for Byrom however
We may see Nick in Zim colours one day but it will only be because he could not crack it in the UK. He is injured at the moment and only has 1 year left on his contract, running out of time. He didn't get a chance in the FC or T20 stuff, got a go in the 50 over comp and did he knee and think he will be out for the season.
I don't blame anyone for trying their luck overseas but like I said, hopefully ZC can just be on good terms with these guys and their families and leave the door open if it doesn't work out for them abroad. Surely their counties would be very keen to have them out playing first class Logan in Zim in their winter rather then training in indoor nets, as well? Win-win for everyone to have good relations.

As I've said, I think the time for holding grudges and quotas and racial tensions has well and truly passed. The pickings are slim in terms of quality international players and the board, I think, recognise this

Irish cricket was in serious regression after the 2015 WC, but they've made some sort of a comeback in recent years. They almost beat SA in a series (albeit SA aren't what they used to be) had it not been for rain in the first ODI. Balbirnie, Stirling, Tector, and a couple other guys are quite useful. I reckon they are ahead of Zimbabwe in limited overs cricket at the moment...this series will be the litmus test.

I agree completely with everything secret has had to say here. Not only do I not blame players for trying their luck in the UK I actually really like the idea of it. I think it's great exposure and helps out Zim cricket in a better place as long as those players come back and play. Even if they just become Logan cup regulars it still helps out Zim cricketsecretzimbo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 5:49 pmYeah I felt that bridges may have been built with the Welch's. Being ahead of Zim is never a hard feat
I still think they were better placed around 2015 than they are now. They were absolutely pummelled by Malan and Co in those ODI's

I think ‘nearly beat SA’ is a bit stretching the truth tbh.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 5:54 pmIrish cricket was in serious regression after the 2015 WC, but they've made some sort of a comeback in recent years. They might have a decent first XI but worth noting their depth is much worse than Zim’s even. Their domestic setup is rubbish and there isn’t a lot of youth coming through. Seems like they are going down the poaching-Saffers route for new players.
We produce endless amounts of talent more than Ireland do. Their system is still a long way behind ours tbh.
I know we are literally talking about importing players ourselves here, but at least they have learnt their cricket in Zim and played age group here. Not random people with grandparents and tenuous links.

How so? It was a drawn series as is, and the Irish were in a pretty strong position in the first ODI. They were en route to posting a 300 ish total which gives them a fighting chance at least. It was enough for them to win the 2nd ODI, so its 50-50 they could have done it in the first one.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 6:20 pm
