I watched the entire first innings and it was quite frustrating how all of the top 7 (Maruma aside) got a start then got out. I’ve always been a big fan of Kasuza, he has all the tools but seems to have zero cricket IQ, always gets himself out.

I guess the positive is everyone got some time in the middle, but it would have been nice to someone go on for a real big score. Burl also shits me, why the fuck is he batting No.7 in a match like this? Go up the order lad ffs.

On Timmy Maruma, I feel for the guy because he’s been around so long & never gives up despite all the downs & abuse he cops. Since ZC started streaming their domestic games I’ve watched him bat quite a bit.

He’s improved so much over the years ( I remember watching him bat v Pakistan in 2013 😬😬😬) so you know he’s worked hard on his game. The thing is against Zimbabwe domestic bowlers he can smash them all over the park, but that’s his ceiling, once he gets to international cricket he just cope against the quicker bowlers or quality spinners.

I haven’t watched the second innings so I’ll hold my judgement on the bowling until I do watch (most likely during the rains delays of the 4th ashes test) but it looks as though Kaitano has done enough to earn himself a spot opening alongside Regis.

Kaitano batted great. Has all the shots. Seems very convincing on the cut and his pull shots remind me of a certain vusi Sibanda when they come off.
The flick shot for 6 off muzarabani was pretty neat and astounding.

I hope kaitano suprises a few people and gets the gig. He deserves two series to see if he has the goods which I think he has

Where did he come from? I don’t remember him playing U19’s?? Does anyone know much about him? It’s pretty rare to see a guy make the grade for Zimbabwe that didn’t come from the under 19s setup.

Blessing muzarabani didn't play under 19s and he is our leading bowler 😊😊.

I know what you mean though. I'm not sure about kaitano under 19s tourney if he was even part of it. He is 29 now I believe so a late bloomer a little like kudzai maunze

Wow I didn’t realise he was 29!!!

I have no issue in picking older guys, I find the older the batter is the more they know their game. I’m more inclined to pick a 28-year old rather than a 19’year old

He's a Midlands boy originally, went to high school up at Churchill if I recall. Didn't make the U19 sides. Then went to (local) university and seemed to give up playing for a while. Re-emerged and impressed for Kadoma CC and then Muzvezve in the premier league before getting picked for Rhinos and making his franchise debut as a 24 year-old.

Was pretty ropey/poor at first but has made significant improvements over the past two seasons. I enjoyed his very divisive Test debut.

I like him. I don't think he is going to set the world alight, but in lieu of any other opener options I think he looks decent enough to be alright for a few years across formats for us.

I enjoyed kaitano debut test. He played a lot like braithwaite of the west indies. very defensive with the odd checked shot here and there.

You can see he is deffo not a one dimensional player as has a very decent by zimbabwe standards list a average of 34.

I hope he is going through a purple patch as has been very good past 2 seasons

Honestly Maruma can bat, he can contribute even if not in a big way, i think it is a mental weakness or psychological weakness that once he is asked to perform at the biggest stage he fails like it is with willingness by all means.
